Named X-wing Manouvres

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing

Just a sudden thought, talking about the Segnor's Loop in another thread.

How many named 'manouvres' are there in the books.

I remember the following - anyone have any to add?

  • Koiogran turn - needs no introduction
  • Segnor's loop - same
  • Silerian stall - essentially a 'stop dead' manouvre for a fighter so a tailing opponent overshoots
  • Ackbar slash - a line astern to punch through an enemy formation
  • A-wing slash - hiding missile boats behind heavy fighters until the range closes

Only thing that comes to mind is:

  • Loran spitball - opening the hangar bay doors of a ship and allowing all the fighters contained within to simulatenously launch ordnance at an enemy

Wotan Weave, come on, you all know it, hold the stick to the corner, roll and alter to aim.

Corellian Slip: when a friendly is being tailed by an enemy, fly directly at friendly, who will veer at the last moment allowing one to shoot the enemy
Tallon Roll: hard to describe- just hit the link http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tallon_Roll

Antilles Maneuver: counters the Tallon Roll

Two from the Thrawn trilogy.

Covert shroud maneuver (Luke's esploding freighter with his X-wing inside from The Last Command)

Marg Sabl maneuver (Sending fighters from around the opposite side of a capital ship in an unstructured attack)

Don't forget the Cracken Twist! It's a handy bit of subterfuge, and also the latest dance craze sweeping Coruscant.

I don't know if any of you have ever heard about these maneuvers, they are pretty obscure and specific.

Aileron roll, anybody?

Google "do a barrel roll" it's my favorite manuever.

A lot of the ones you guys are mentioning aren't specific maneuvers but general strategy for groups of fighters. A single fighter doesn't perform a Marg Sabl maneuver, a group of fighters fly in a particular formation and conduct a series of maneuvers that are collectively named Marg Sabl. Same with several others mentioned.

Just keep safe search on.

Sideslip. It's used a lot in the X-wing novels, at least, and it's one I've wished was somehow in the game. I imagine it would work (mechanically in-game) similarly to a barrel roll, but not as far a distance. Just a slight lateral reposition, and maybe no option for forward/backward movement with it.
