PRINCESS LEIA #1
I thought story-wise this was the weakest of the three Marvel titles so far, but it's only issue 1 and I know Mark Waid can do great stuff, so we'll see what happens.
A few new planets are name-dropped, but we don't find out much about them. Insk is home to silicon-based life forms. Daxan Beta is close to Imperial trade routes, and Vanooria has notable ammonia apparently.
We find the canon bounty that Imperial High Command has levelled against Leia by way of a bounty notice that reads:
Secret alert high command only
Leia Organa traitor bounty 10,000,000 deadhigh command onlysecret alert
Note: DEAD. There is no "or alive" option. Sheev is most sincerely miffed at the destruction of his pet project. It also indicates that the Rebels have a way to intercept Imperial High Command communications.
We're introduced to the earliest canonical female rebel pilot: Evaan. She is not only Alderaanian, but was mentored by Leia's adoptive mother, Queen Breha. Nice coinkydink there.
We see a new design of shuttle, which I'm assuming is a T-1, based on Luke's communication. (The Jedi used a T-6 in the Clone Wars era).
And finally we find that Artoo has seen the films as well as Mark Waid, as without a hint of irony he says:
I've got a bad feeling about this.
By way of a display screen. Cute, or pandering?
Next issue should be more interesting, as we're heading off to Naboo, which iirc will be the first canonical representation set during the rebellion era. I hope they put some effort into "Imperial Naboo" with it being the home planet of the Emperor, and don't just photo-reference the movies.
Star Wars #3 shows three types of vehicles in one panel: "scout walkers," (AT-STs), "assault tanks" (appear to be AATs, or heavily based on that design - is the Empire finding a use for all those deactivated droid vehicles?), and "combat speeders" (difficult to describe, but they seem to be single-person and vaguely TIE-ish). The combat speeders seem to be new additions to the canon, the AT-STs are nothing new, but the use of "Imperialized" AATs is interesting
EDIT: The combat speeders, after taking a closer look, seem to be some kind of "heavy speeder bike." Based on the panels where we see a speeder bike being pursued by a combat speeder, the combat speeder seems to have the sort of profile you'd get if you encased a speeder bike in some armor, then bolted on a pair of stub wings mounting what I assume are heavy blaster cannons. We see them massed alongisde other vehicles, but then later used for pursuit: so the equivalent might be a cataphact or a knight, to the speeder bike's light cavalry.
Edited by RortharrThe only reason comics are considered canon by Disney, is so people would buy them based on their legitimacy and talk about it, like we are all doing in this thread.
The reason comics were not considered canon before was because of the Archie Goodwin comics. In those Jabba looked like an Aqualish
Something certain point of view something...
Yes Wookiee slaves on Kessel are shown in Rebels.
The difference here is that the Imps are touting the place as a "fully automated facility" to the outside Galaxy.
As for links, well you can find it in your friendly local comic shop! Or digitally at marvel.com, or the Marvel app which I know is on ios and assume is on Android.
empire wasn't too ashamed about having non-humans as slaves it was the humans as slaves part that they took exception to except for those who were part of the opposition of the empire.
No offense folks, don't mind me I'm just getting old in my middle age. CANON IS BULLS**T. OK. Everything you all call EU or Legends now was canon back when we bought it too(G.Lucas even endorsed the Thrawn Trilogy) and in another 20-30 years, maybe less, watch the story change again. But go ahead and "quote canon" and crow about how much of an expert you are in the facts of your fantasy. I'll be in my 60's 70's (unless I have become one with the force) and I'll chuckle when I hear you bitchin about the same thing I am now.
I generally find that posts that start with "No offense..." know they're going to go out of their way to be offensive. What did we do to you? I only see one person "crowing" here.
Secondly, I would not go as far as to say you're wrong re your Lucas and Thrawn being canon quote, but please educate me with a relevant quote from Lucas. I always heard that the publishers spun everything as official, but Lucas always made the distinction. But I don't claim to know everything, so please elucidate.
I guess we did well to get to page 3 without the same old tired rhetoric, but nothing good lasts forever, especially civil discourse.

Thanks Rortharr, late getting my copy, but this does seem pretty much like the only new stuff. I'll have to have a re-read ![]()
PRINCESS LEIA #2
A couple of previously EU/Legends items made their way into this issue.
The planet Broest (although the vegetable Ruica is new)
Keren City on Naboo was previously in Star Wars Galaxies. Club Deeja in the Marine district is new as far as I know. It's run by a shady human named Mul Sanaka, who likes to employ Besalisk thugs as muscle.
And speaking of Besalisks, does anyone else think that the WORST place you'd want to headbutt one is on that ridged, armoured forehead? Either Leia's head is a lot harder than it looks, or that's a Besalisk weak spot!
I thought they played it disappointingly safe with Naboo. Aside from a couple of troopers at the port, it seems unchanged from the movie. A missed opportunity to show what Imperial crackdown looks like I feel.
Gungans are still around in the time of the OT. I always wondered if Sheev would make good on his order to "Wipe them out. All of them."
Finally there's what looks to be a new type of Naboo ship (a pleasure craft) but we don't see too much of it.
And there was a city called (I believe) Deeja Peak on Naboo in SWG too!
That your work? Pretty cool job.
Vader #3
-Kallidahin Space.
-Quarantined world not even Vader is allowed to go to per "treaties".
-Nanodroids that can be blown like dust (helpful to identify the next item)
-Trip lasers
-Polis Massan species (which is also known as Kallidahin).
-Protocol droid AI specializing in torture
-Blastomech droids, assassin droids disguised as astromechs. Well just a prototype, no indication if they ever went into actual production.
-A new ship. Looks similar in shape to a Firespray, but its clearly not one. I'm far far from an expert, so I have no idea if this would have ever appeared in previous material now deemed Legends, or if it is brand spanking new.
I think that is everything "new". There are a bunch of other things we have seen before and we know are canon, so I didn't mention them.
BTW, this issue is AWESOME and gave me new inspiration for a EotE character, though the one in the comic is a STRONG homage to Indiana Jones (with a twist).
Edited by rowdyoctopusOh, more subtle things from Darth Vader #3.
They mention behavioral inhibitors for droids, even mentioning varying strengths. I assumed they were just restraining bolts, but could be something different? There is no restraining bolt visible on the droid in the artwork. The behavioral inhibitors were applied while the droid was offline.
There is an unidentified, lost, Research and Development language used to program the torture protocol droid and the assassin astromech droid. Vader might know it.
Something called the Tarkin Initiative, which is apparently where these droids were conceptualized and developed originally.
Good job rowdyoctopus! I think you pretty much nailed it. I might be able to take an early retirement ![]()
I thought the nanodroids were interesting, being the first (iirc) mention in canon of nanotechnology. Of course it's possible that half the tech in Star Wars is powered by nanotech as far as we know. Interesting as well that they are "antique" suggesting that such things are no longer in use.
The Kallidahin is the legends name for Polis Massans. Canon now.
Darth Vader continuing to be the most interesting of the new Marvel titles.
Edited by MrDodgerKANAN - THE LAST PADAWAN #1
Interesting first issue. We get a brand new species, the Kallerans, from the planet Kaller. Seem to be a reptilian race.
A new Separatist General - Kleeve, a Devaronian.
New ship - Separatist Command Shuttle.
For those interested, here's the wanted poster from next issue:

Kanan is the only book I'm not buying. Thanks for keeping up with this!
Not a prob, glad you're finding it useful ![]()
If I had to drop one of these, it'd be Leia. It's the one with the most 'huh?' moments, and the characterisation feels really off.
Kanan #1 is an excellent start, the artwork is awesome. And if you're into the mythology it should be interesting.
Of course, I'm a completionist freak, so I'm not dropping anything ![]()
I was happy to see them expand a little more on lightsaber forms in Kanan #1, even if it's just to specify that Form III is a defensive form, which we already knew. I never knew much about Depa Billaba, so it was a fun issue for me.

In The Clone Wars there is some nanotech in the form of nano-droids that are sent into the Jedi Temple and form a bomb. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sabotage_%28episode%29

DARTH VADER #4
Not a lot new, continues to be awesome. We do get to see more of the psycho-droids in action. (I wonder if the Tarkin Initiative stole the triple-zero template from Chopper?)
We do get:
- Droid Geonosians
- a "droid womb" that creates battle droids. Interesting concept, machines creating machines. A bit perverse ![]()
That's basically how crash military hardware and ship production was explained in Destiny's way. You build a droid it builds droid factories. The factories build more droids and those droids build shipyards and factories for fighters, vehicles, weapons and other needed hardware.
- Droid Geonosians
OK, so like, droids with the shape of a Geonosian? Or Geonosians that have droid bodies? Either way, sounds cool!
