Marvel Star Wars Canon reference

By MrDodger, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

This, however, is my kind of retconning. :D (no thumbs up smiley?)

Thanks.

For me, Star Wars works best when you treat it playfully rather than scientifically.

Not that I just dismiss bad science across the board, but Star Wars has a little more "pulpy elasticity"* in that arena than most.

When you get down to it, Star Wars is rather like all the cool stuff thrown in a junk drawer and shaken up (robots and ray guns, samurai and wuxia, swords and sorcery)... But accurate science is cool too so it needs at least a little of its own proper space.

*Yay, mixed metaphor!

I don't think it's coincidence that the floating space whale bases look a LOT like the big turtle-whale troop carrier things from the first Avengers movie

Really - I thought it was more the Space Whale from the Doctor Who episode The Beast Below:

I was reading the original script and there is the following regarding the infamous line about the speed of the Falcon and parsecs.

INT. TATOOINE - MOS EISLEY - CANTINA Strange creatures play exotic big band music on odd-looking instruments as Luke, still giddy, downs a fresh drink and follows Ben and Chewbacca to a booth where Han Solo is sitting. Han is a tough, roguish starpilot about thirty years old. A mercenary on a starship, he is simple, sentimental, and cocksure. HAN Han Solo. I'm captain of the Millennium Falcon. Chewie here tells me you're looking for passage to the Alderaan system. BEN Yes, indeed. If it's a fast ship. HAN Fast ship? You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon? BEN Should I have? HAN It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs! Ben reacts to Solo's stupid attempt to impress them with obvious misinformation. HAN I've outrun Imperial starships, not the local bulk-cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you, old man. What's the cargo?

"Ben reacts to Solo's stupid attempt to impress them with obvious misinformation."

That part didn't show up in the movie all that well, but there it is, for what it's worth.

Thank you for this. It just makes both Han and Obi-Wan more fun, for me.

Since this seems to be the Marvel Comics discussion thread - how about this bombshell:

Well, I did not see THAT coming. Seriously, would would have thought that Disney would drop a major canon change like that in a comic book? Cant wait to see how this plays out. . . .

I was just about to bring this up.

Personally, it isn't a major canon change... yet.

Too many possible variations and outcomes.

It could very easily be any number of things that are a big deal at the time but resolve into little more than minor incidents... Or it could completely change how we see certain characters in retrospect.

There's any number of ways for this to play out without disrupting the movies too badly

The look on Han's face is more "Oh geez, this obsessed groupie again!" more than a man found out.

It could have been a drunk bender at Space Vegas during their youth that was quickly annulled, and is now a running joke between the two. It could be a marriage of convenience - citizenship or alibis and the like. Or she’s just messing with Leia because Han is her friend/associate and she enjoys cock blocking him.

Although. . . . .five bucks says she's Lando's sister.

Niiice! Didn't get to town today, so don't have my issues yet. Looking forward to this one and Vader :)

Any chick who starts a conversation while pointing a gun at you on its face is "another somebody done somebody wrong song".....

Yeah, well, who in the damned Verse ain't!?

Also: I think we might be able to read the "lightyears away" thing as a boast. Sort of like, "What? No, we won't be here when the cops show up, we'll be miles away!" (And you're a couple of blocks away when the cops show up - although for all practical intents and purposes, you may as well be some miles away.) I mean, I suppose for space travel, you'd probably want to say, "We'll be lightminutes away" or "Lighthours away". But that might raise eyebrows with certain, less educated readers.

Did he win her in a game of Sabacc too?
