Marvel Star Wars Canon reference

By MrDodger, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

This thread isn't intended for story spoilers, but more reference to new items, planets, etc that are introduced. All new marvel Star Wars are part of the new official story group canon, so things that are introduced are considered 'official' as far as Lucasfilm is concerned,

In issue 1 we are introduced to the planet Cymoon 1, part of the Corellian Industrial Cluster and apparently "the largest weapons factory in the galaxy". We see TIE fighters being constructed.

There is a Hutt shuttle, which looks a lot like Jabba's sail barge.

Imperials using slave labour.

There are some other interesting events, but they might be considered spoilers. These are the main canon introductions.

link please.

I think he's more asking for any pics of the newness

I think he just said "Links please"... Which in itself is annoying enough as it is. ;)

Haven't we seen the Imps using slave labor before? Kessel and whatnot? If not that sounds like a great place to send mid-level groups who got incapacitated and captured. Heck that could even be a Rebel mission. Be a slave, sabotage the empire.

Yes Wookiee slaves on Kessel are shown in Rebels.

The difference here is that the Imps are touting the place as a "fully automated facility" to the outside Galaxy.

As for links, well you can find it in your friendly local comic shop! Or digitally at marvel.com, or the Marvel app which I know is on ios and assume is on Android.

Oh wonderful, another "Largest in the Galaxy" location. Why do I have a distinct feeling we're about to encounter yet another case of scaleitus. Well, at least they didn't say "all the weapons" or something silly like that.

Yeah, but this is CANON "largest in the Galaxy"! ;)

The comic was great! All of that info is accurate.

My Take Away Is That Its Canon That They Said It Is. Lets behonest, Even In Our World, That's A Fairly Common Boast.

@Desslok,

I don't get it. Am I missing something?

It's a missing link!

What was that whip the slave driver had? It looked like a lightsaber style whip...

Though I admittedly haven't seen it, I'm going to assume an energy (simmilar to magnaguard) or shock wip. A light-saber-wip, beside being conceptually 'pwa?' would also be rather useless as a slave motivating tool - you have to survive the whippings!

It Was A Light Whip. We've Seen Them before

@Desslok, I have to say that your avatar is perfect for that post.

I do hope you realize I was joking about "missing" something in your post.

I'm fairly certain it was not a lightwhip. Reading wookieepedia, it appears it was likely a shock whip.

Oops. That's What I Meant. Sorry.Shock Whip. Not Light Whip.Shock Whip. They Are A Common Took For Slaves And Animal trainers

I do now. But in my defense, that was first thing in the morning, well before my coffee!

Yep. I assumed that they were the shock whips that the Zygerrian slavers used in the Clone Wars arc. I think Lumiya-style light whips are likely to remain 'legends' for now.

ISSUE 2

Nothing really added to the canon here by means of tech or places, everything is faily familiar - maybe too much so. This felt to me to be leaning on the movies much more so than issue 1, but it's solid enough. Still early days.

We do see one impressive force use, and one character (guess who?) ;) proclaim that there' s no such thing as the Force, which may be the prevalent opinion of the majority in this time period.

****SLIGHT SPOILER****

In the Clone Wars we saw Yoda disarm Ventress with the Force, showing the massive gap in their power levels. Vader does the same thing to Luke, showing it's clearly possible. Although Luke is strong, he's untrained. I assume he's ready for this tactic by Cloud City, but not for the telekinetic onslaught.

Also interesting is that although Vader was able to sense the Force in Luke during the trench run, here he is feet away from him and does not recognise him. Adds some weight to the argument that the stronger the personal connection between force users, the easier it is for them to sense each other, as in the approach to Endor. In game terms I'd say that detecting force users through sense is not automatic, and should factor in an opposed discipline check, as well as the two force ratings and familiarity. Perhaps F&D does something like this, anyone know?

Well, to get all technical about sensing force here. What Vader was sensing at Yavin during the trench run was the spirit of Obi-Wan reaching out to Luke, helping him to tap in and use the Force. Perhaps it was this that Vader was picking up on, not "just" Luke. I have not read the comic yet, but this may help explain the situation that you described. Perhaps in a game mechanics sense, the GM allowed an extra Force Die for Luke's roll or something. Vader evens comments that the Force is strong with this one, but perhaps it was because of the help from Kenobi, and that "extra" force die. Just some early morning musings...
