Fleet Officer looks good on paper ...

By WWHSD, in X-Wing

Fleet Officer looks good on paper but I'm having trouble figuring out where I'd actually use it. The stress for the ability seems to make the card a lot more situationally useful than I'd like it to be.

I'd really like to use Kir Kanos with Autothrusters along side something with Fleet Officer. He'd be great for trading shots at range 3 with higher PS enemies. Do you shoot at the Interceptor with a token stack and at least one guaranteed evade or do you let him fire a four dice attack at you? I just can't seem to find anywhere to put the Fleet Officer that wouldn't just be better off with other crew, actions, or not needing to be locked in to green moves.

Has anyone found a good use for Fleet Officer or is it one of those cards that looks great but doesn't work out so great in actual play?

Have you thought about FO on a Doomshuttle and have a Wingman? It seems like you have to relieve the stress to make it a worthwhile card.

OGP

- Vader

- Fleet Officer

Howlrunner

- Swarm Tactics

BSP

- Wingman

Academy Pilot x3

Howlrunner could have a Focus and Evade every round!

Pairs well with ordnance. They spend the turn acquiring target locks, and now they have focus to get those aussault missiles through.

OGP + AdvS + FO allows you to clear the Stress provided you selected a Green Maneuver.

Not crazy about it but maybe on a shuttle in a swarm list with a BSP+Wingman, something like:

OGP+Fleet

Howl+Stealth

BSP+Wingman

BSP+DTF

APx2

Howl is getting a focus and evade every turn that both ships have an action, everything else is working like a normal swarm.

Shuttle

Fleet officer

Advanced sensors

3 x Storm + ATC

I used it on a VT-49 and found it semi-useful. One thing to keep in mind is you can use it to give the ship that the Fleet Officer is on a focus as well as some other ship.

I guess Kenkirk would be the best Decimator to use it on. That way, he can use the focus once his ability kicks in.

I've been thinking of running this:

Patrol Leader - FO + Gunner

Gamma Sqd. - Assault missile + Concussion

Gamma sqd. - Assault missile + Flechette Torp.

Throws focus on the two Gamma's allowing them to be pretty accurate with their missiles. The Patrol leader should still put out decent offense with gunner too. It would be decent against a swarm, not much else though.

I find FO on a shuttle makes it even worse of a pig flying. Stressing yourself every turn will hurt. Maybe pair it with Advanced Sensors so you can at least FO then try and clear the stress.

I love running it on a shuttle. Sometimes I'll combine it with Advanced Sensors to make it easier to use, but usually I'll just use the Fleet Officer & FCS. You can also drop an Intelligence Agent on the Lambda and use it to make Alpha Squadron Pilots unholy engines of death.

I don't think there is anything amazing to combo it with. I think it's good, but not great. Giving it to something agile will then let you pick evade with it. So, Howlrunner, another Tie Fighter, or even Tie Inteceptor can turtle up. It can be used with a Firespray that maybe has a HLC. The Firespray either TL's or evades for their action. A Tie Defender could use a TL while you gave them a Focus. Then, fire your HLC at them.

Nothing great.....but some neat things. I think a Shuttle might be the best thing to put it on.

I'm thinking of pairing brath with a bounty hunter running fleet officer. Might need a black squadron pilot with wingman to pull the stress. But a firespray is at least maneuverable enough to keep up with other ships.

Hello Raider.

Lambda and FCS (to compensate for trashed action economy) or Engine Upgrade (to compensate for trashed maneuverability after being rammed hard onto the green dial). Had some success giving that Lambda an Ion Cannon. Also would be badass on the Raider.

Shuttle

Fleet officer

Advanced sensors

3 x Storm + ATC

I like that as a baseline. Changing it to:

100 points

Shuttle + Ion Cannon + FCS + Gunner + Fleet Officer (31)

3x Tempest + ATC (3x22 = 66)

If your Ion misses, gain a TL and try again with primaries.

Looks like he only used Flight Officer once in that. The color coded tombstones and target lock templates were pretty cool though.

Shuttle

If you could find a point to switch out the Ion Cannon for a Mango Cannon you could call that list "Crit Happens".

I've always loved the Imperial Command Shuttle, and fleet officer just makes it better.

Colonel Jendon — Lambda-Class Shuttle 26

Ion Cannon 3

Fleet Officer 3

Weapons Engineer 3

ST-321 3

Pair that with a couple Tie Bombers in an Epic match, and the CR-90 is going to have a very bad day. Action Economy? What action economy?

The biggest drawback here is the range 1 requirement for Jendon's ability. The ST 321 title makes up for that a bit, but your opponent will see you coming a kilometer away.

I saw it used once on a low PS Phantom. It was much better than I thought it would be. At at 30 points it became quite the Biggs.

Im thinking of giving Brath with Hlc and Wingman with a shuttle (maybe Yorr for more stressy synergy) and fleet officer.

Brath will have double focus a lot (in theory) and Shuttle will be relatively free to slam the brakes on.

OGP, Advanced Sensors & Fleet Officer is going to be right up there with the Buzzsaw and Doomshuttle for effective Space Cow builds.

Somebody used it against me on a Lambda with Advanced Sensors with Rebel Captive, and two Bounty Hunters with Tacticians. Lambda would use Advance Sensors with FO to give the BHs a free evade action and then pull a green maneuver to clear the stress so it could do it again.

He didn't win. But it looked good on paper and on the first 2 turns. My 2 Rookies went down after only dealing 4 damage to one of the bounty hunters, but his list was powerless against the rest of my list, 58 point Dash. I was able to keep his Bounty Hunters from ever focusing fire on Dash, and never getting a range 2 shot, while Dash did a constant 3 damage to them a turn, the FO stopped being a factor when the Lambda was unable to keep with the BHs chasing Dash. I think that's the problem with Fleet Officer, it makes you fly in a predictable little box, because the ship using it is forced into green maneuvers.

Hello Raider.

Wow, only one plug for the Raider so far? I'm kind of surprised.

yeah it looks good but like most Empire only crews FFG felt inclined to screw us with a handicap(take 2 dmg to deal a crit,Range 1, get a stress etc.).
