Hopefully a really easy question someone can answer:

Does Descent 2nd edition have the exact same tiles as Descent 1st edition?

I bought Descent 1st edition way back when and one expansion. Played it a couple times. I made a complete 3D board utilizing Hirst Arts molds, so I'm mostly curious if the tiles from first are identical to the tiles of second.

Nope. That was easy.

Yeah the tiles in Descent 2.0 are completely different and 2 sided. One side presents out door scenes (paths, rivers...) and when you flip them over they are interiors (tunnels, corridors...)

The tiles are much better designed and the art on them is prettier and more detailed.

If you're thinking of using the Hirst Art molds to build D2E maps, sorry that won't work. The tiles in 2E are all shaped oddly with asymmetrical layouts and connection points at uneven intervals. Compared to D1E's mostly symmetrical room and hallway junctions. I'd imagine the number of 2E quests you could build with 1E tiles (or replacements thereof) would be pretty limited.

However, if you want to play D1E's old quests using D2E's rules, that should work fine. There are several fan-made conversions out there for playing 1E quests by (mostly) 2E rules, and of course your Hirst Art tiles will work fine for building 1E quest maps, for which they were designed. =)

My Legendary Play Variant Rules are just such a variant.

Also (I dread the can of worms I'm opening by doing this,) but the IA tiles are compatible with D2E. You could, if you so chose, make custom IA maps for D2E, or make custom D2E maps for IA, or (dare I say it) maps with pieces from both games!
