Ship on core book page 29

By WillisRBC, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I can't place the ship in that picture. I know I've seen it before, but I'm drawing a blank. Can anyone help me out?

Its from the Freedon Nadd era.

Yeah it's the Nebulon Ranger... sort of....

This has come up before, and while everyone agreed it looked like Nebulon Ranger (a Crescent X9) there's enough minor differences that no one could settle if it was supposed to be a modified Crescent, a Rebellion Era decendant of the the Crescent, or was intended to be an actual Crescent and the artist just kinda messed it up.

I think it's just a strangely rendered Crescent as the T-16 and Skipray images shown later in the Vehicles chapter also feature similar mistakes (the T-16's geometry is just plain wrong, and the Skipray has an extra set of wings, most likely because the artist used the "essential vehicles" diagrams as a reference but was too lazy to notice how the wings rotate round the body and that the essential diagram always showed the wings in positions that wouldn't block the view of the fuselage.

Why would they include a ship type that was out of service for thousands of years before EOE takes place though?

Because it's still a Star Wars spaceship, and it does look kinda cool and different, and it's just artwork so it has no actual impact on the game in any way shape or form.

Besides, if you haven't noticed FFG has decided (with good reason) not to spend time fretting over making material match the EU Star Wars timeline.

Remember that while Wookieepedia makes it all look nice and neat and organized, the actual timeline in implementation is pretty FUBAR. With all the different writers trying to both recycle the coolest part of other materials (and not really caring about where on the timeline it is, because it's cool and that's all that matters) while simultaneously one-upping them, you can't help be end up with a timeline more inbred then the guys from deliverance.

Okay…. Wow. I don’t think I have ever seen three more messed-up drawings of Star Wars spacecraft before.

Something about the T-16 in the book always bugged me, but I never knew what it was. When I started comparing that drawing against others, it became blindingly obvious.

Man. You can’t just un-see some things, but at least now I know what is wrong about what I’m looking at.

Clearly you've never opened up a WEG book :D Or a SW comic for that matter...

So, you’re saying that I should throw away that big stash of SW comics that I bought back before Christmas, but have not yet had a chance to actually try to read?

:o :(

Oh hell no, the Star Wars comics are lot of fun, just don't expect the ships to all look right. I lost count of how many "Unidentified Imperial Star Destroyer" entries on Wookipedia marked with "or may just be artistic liberty."

No kidding, half the ships in Dark Empire alone look like what happens when you leave a lego star destroyer sitting out in a day care center for an afternoon.

Watch A New Hope you can see it for a few seconds when speeders go by in Mos Esley.
