Question on Scum stuff.....

By BergerFett, in X-Wing

I have been away from the game for some time and the new Scum have me interested in potentially getting back in.

I know something that annoyed me previously was you had to buy everything just to have all the upgrade card potentials. It made the game a bigger cash sink than I would have liked.

Are they remedying this with Scum, or will I have to go hunt down all the previously released upgrade cards?

Thanks

ps - I realize the models arent out yet, so maybe its premature to ask, wasn't sure if they posted more information elsewhere.

As long as you have the ships that aren't provided (Firespray, HWK and second Y-Wing), you have more than enough for a viable 100 point list, but if you want all the upgrades, you'll need to buy other models.

The Most Wanted expansion will have a lot of upgrade cards relevant to the ships it comes with, and to other Scum ships as well. Most of the upgrade cards in individual ship packs are focused on that ship, and one of each Scum ship looks like it will give you good variety of upgrade cards so that you have multiple options for all of the different slots on all of your ships.

That said, they do not include all previously released upgrade cards. No expansion has even come close to doing that (and it gets less and less likely as more expansions are released). If you know someone who has been collecting for a while, you can probably borrow or trade for their extras, or possibly find them online, and you'll really only need physical copies for official tournaments anyway.

With just the Scum ships (and a Firespray and HWK) you won't have every possible option, but you'll have multiple (useful) options for every upgrade type.

Ok , thanks for the replies. I am interested in potentially getting back in.

It would be really awesome if FFG would release a deck of upgrade cards like once a year, i think they'd make a crap ton of money actually.

They make more money the way it works right now. Why sell an upgrade deck for 30$ when you can force people to spend 200$ to get the same cards.

Yep as others have said if you have a Firespray a HWK or a handfull of Y-Wings then you are good to go with a purchase of the Most wanted expansion pack because it offers lots of upgrades and new pilot cards to some ships of previous waves....to be honest I think its a **** good deal and a pretty smart move on FFG behalf. If you are interested in getting back in now is the time to do so, because Scum and Villany is going to make things really interesting if not for just a really fun faction to get in to

There are some upgrade cards that will be reprinted in the new Scum stuff. IG-2000 will have Proximity Mines, which you could only get through Slave I before. Also Seismic Charges (in Slave 1 and Bomber). Starviper will also have Hull Upgrade that you could only get through Imp Aces (that I don't own and don't want). I'm excited about that one. I'm still waiting on Targeting Computer.

If you have an Android device, there is an amazing app called X-wing Companion that is free and has all the details on all the pilots, ships, cards, etc. It organizes it in every way possible, including by set. Want to learn what various cards do? This a godsend, especially when you can then look to see what blisters they come in.

Team covenant sells single cards on their webstore. If you know which cards you want it could be an economical purchase. If you want a variety of cards, it is probably cheaper to get expansion packs.

Ebay too. But both are always sold out on the ones you need.

Thanks for all the replies.

Will the Scum and Villany box come with Tokens and measuring sticks or will I need to get a core set or aftermarket ones.

You definitely need a core set. Or two.

from what your talking about, No this has not changed with Scum and Villany. You will still find that you have to aquire a ship just to get the upgrade card in it. In Fact the StarViper expansion is comnig with the Card Autothrusters that both A-wingers and Tie Interceptors will be chasing down. Dash players will be buying a Scum ship for a cannon.
