yeah,
I have two games later tonight and I'm planing on using my new A-wing squadron.

100pts.
How do I fly this Squadron?
Straight at them like a tie squadron?
focus & evade with the greens while the prototypes focus... or should the prototypes evade?
or Two small squads evade those in arc and focus with those who are flanking?
Panic...
A-Wing Squadron - Repaint - How do I fly this?
Wow they look so good!!
as per your question, my plan would be to split up my force in-order to tempt my opponent to split his force.
A-wings can regroup better than almost any other ship.
DON'T TRUST THE GREEN DICE
I would would fly them to FedEx and mail them to me .. the Green Squadron ships look amazing!
I would fly them as a group of 4 and a group of 2. The Prototypes should pretty much always focus IF they are in arc to be shot as a focus is all around better as it can be used on defense and attack, so if you haven't used it by the time you come to shoot it's a bonus.
The Greens are best served with evade/focus if in arc to be shot at, but if you can get them on a flank, TL/Focus or boost/focus can be very effective.
You really are going to need to fly this list very much like a swarm as it is going to pretty much always shoot last.
I think though, that you may have good success with it if you can master it.
Ooh pretty...! Great job man. I'm an imp player mostly so no expert on rebel tactics but I agree with stegocent on an initial strategy; split up (to minimise the number of your ships being targeted by more than one opponent) and get behind the enemy ASAP. Force him to split ranks. As soon as he does this you'll have the upper hand. And if this fails? Who cares, it appears to be a fun list to fly, looks sweeeet to-boot and just means you'll have to play it more in order to find a successful strategy...
And definately don't trust the green dice... The teasing little devils that they are...
Nice Job. What green paint did you use. I was planning on painting some of my A-wings green too?
As for Strategy, Green are flankers, blue are squadron. Would be my recommendation.
1, 2, 4, 3, 5, 6. *twitch
I'd fly them all over the place, never be where they thinkyou are going to be.
It should fly like a bit more maneuverable Tie swarm. I would try to get TL's any time you are not the focus of an attack to give yourself a Howlrunner type advantage. That is what makes a tie swarm so deadly is very accurate fire. Also do not be afraid to use your prototypes as blockers. Wih 4 of them you should be able to clog up some moving lanes. Don't forget you have a 5 straight. Sometimes it's better to zoom ahead and get out of the fight instead of trying to K-turn and take bad shots. Your opponent will usually expect the K-Turn. Be sure to post back your results. I only have 4 A-wings but I have been dying to give this a try. As an imperial player the idea of an A swarm sounds like it would be very fun to fly with that dial made in heaven.
At 4 A-Wings, I'd wait a bit and fly this:
4 x
yeah,
Thanks for the feedback.
I never trust any dice, Red or Green!
Their first game was last night and sadly I only have before and after photos.
I was too busy in a timed match and forgot to to take a photo of the dog fight. ![]()
It was against 2 alpha Interceptors Jax and a Bounty hunter.
I swarmed up and jousted, the approach was great as only jax was in range of my four prototypes.
Jax lost 2 hull and the A-wings dodged.
When things hit range one. Jax died and the bounty hunter lost half his lifes.
The bounty hunter dropped a seismic charge which exploded hitting 4 a-wings! I didn't see that coming.
But from there the prototypes made excellent blockers and the dice gods were in my favour.
I ended the game 100-0
with two x healthy A-wings, two with 2 hull left and two with 1 hull left!
a clean sheet for their first game.
I got this photo from my friend Jonny.
it highlights one of the problems I never thought about as a non swarm flyer.
The greens used push the limit in the previous round.
because they were stressed they couldn't K turn in formation with the Prototypes ![]()

Panic...
Yeah,
This is a quick guide to how I painted these.
It was extremely easy and quick, about 30mins per ship.
Another photo from Jonney and this one shows a interceptor!
The Green Squadrons green was simply painted over the red of the original, I didn't strip.
I used GW paints their foundation green, a regular mid green and then a green wash.
Two thin layers of the foundation green 60/40 paint/water were used to cover over the red.
waiting for the first to dry before applying the second...
I then highlighted the surface with a light wet brushed with the mid tone green.
Wet brushing is much like dry brushing but a little wet!
it avoids the dry stone surface result you get with dry brushing...
I then applied a complete coverage of green wash helping it pool around the raised detail bumps.
My Dirty tech is a bit wishy washy.. Sort of made up on the spot. This is what I did this time...
Colours used.
GW black, black wash and brown wash.
And Vallejo sepia wash.
black fine lining the armour plates using a tiny bit of black paint on the tip of a detail brush, dipped/ mixed with black wash.
(The wash helps it flow into the lines..)
Then a light wash all over of about 50/50 Vallejo sepia and water.
Then washing some off with water until it looks good.
Then adding some GW black wash while still wet. Again pushing it around with a wet water brush till happy
Allow to dry.
Then using the GW brown and black washes and the gunky dried up sepia inside the sepia containers lid I built up on the interesting bits.
The engines were hit hard with the GW brown wash, then when dry the edges lined with the black wash...
hope that makes sense, I dont normally do paint guides...
Panic...
So you'll be flying Panic's Pain more often?
yeah,
I have a new found love for A-wings! How have I ignored them for so long?
I will be flying this 6 A-wing list a lot until scum are released. It was lots of fun, and I think will be very forgiving.
I have two local tournaments in February and will be bringing the A-wings.
I have a lot of love for the rebels right now, these are the lists I'm thinking of bringing.

Panic...
This is actually one of my favorite lists to fly, I've won two tournaments with it. Your strategy is gonna vary quite a bit from match up to match up, also with your own personal preference.
Keys that I've found:
You control the initial engagement. Part of this is your set up, but because of the A's speed they can alter their positioning better then any other ship and adjust to how your opponent lays out their fleet. By doing this you control were the first engagement happens. This is so key. The only time I've ever lost with list I let my oponent dictate where and when first shooting happened.
Placement:
Asteroids don't matter, they're so easy for you to avoid, place them to your opponents best disadvantage without worrying to much about yourself. For your ships, again preference, but I have the best luck placing them covering my entire length of the board about three inches between each, and all of them angled in at 45 degrees. This gives you the best response time and you can have them all on either side of the board in two turns if you want. Again, control the engagement. Also since you'll probably be placing all your ships first these leaves your opponent with no clear placement for their own ships, and they'll probably place base on the asteroids which you placed purely to their disadvantage right?
Swarm:
With this list you don't need to bunch your ships together like classic tie swarm. In fact it's almost always to your advantage to not. Theirs no Howlrunner equivalent so bunching up is only going to help your opponent, keep them guessing and try and catch them in a pincer move if you can. And since you're almost all blockers take advantage of that. It sounds like you've got a pretty solid handle on it but the most import at thing is staying out of your own way, it's easy to screw yourself over with a list like this. Don't be afraid to hit and run.
This list is a lot of fun, but tough to play, and tough to play against. It tears apart fat Han (albeit slowly) it decimates decimators. Imp swarms can be tricky, unless they fly standard brick style, then they're a sitting duck. Phantoms are doable, I beat one of our best phantom players with only two ships down. My only loss, and my closest games in general are against three or four small ship ace lists, they're a lot harder to pin down and usually have better evasion and firepower.
Nice!
You almost never want to evade with the Prototypes, unless that ship absolutely has no shot. Even in that case, you may be better off boosting t get better position next turn.
The Green's are your only hope of getting consistent damage through against high agility targets, so don't be afraid to simply target lock + focus with them, especially when they are at range 1 of their target. On the other hand, if they have the chance to arc-dodge PS1/2 and deny your opponent a shot in the process, then go for it.
I think you have the right idea with the prototypes being blockers. You are reasonably cost effective, but not to the same extent as Z-95's or TIE Fighters. You need to work a little magic with blocking and PtL + green maneuvers to get those little ships to earn their paycheck.
I don't think anyone has mentioned it but I dig the coat of paint you have on the edges of your bases and tokens. A good work of art needs a good frame and those really help the whole ensemble look sharp. I do the same with my Star Trek ships with matching faction colors.
I just woke my wife up with a "GWAAAOOOORRRRR" when I saw this pic. Now she's angry .. and it is your fault!
This image, the paint jobs, the lot .. fantastic! I love how you carried the Ralph McQuarrie design over to other ships. Be it the green A-Wings, B-Wing, YT, etc.
Just Brilliant!
How did I miss this thread?! I'm up to four A-Wings at the moment (looking for another two if anyone's looking to 'offload') and building list like a mad-thing. A's I think appeal to the 'right stuff' in me!
I just won the first store championship in my area with a variant of this list, last night. Switched out my usual PTLs with predator. It was a good decision.
Twenty six people and some really tight matches. We played the last round to time because it was 1:00 AM. Won by five points.
But I just had to give a shout out to the A-Wings. They've always been my favorite ship and they get too much hate. The A's demand respect.
Did you get matched against people who used predator?
I lost twice to this list yesterday, once in Swiss and once again at the final table. His flying was brilliant and his Predator Green Squadrons were deadly.
yeah,
