Individual releases of Scum and Villany Z-95, Firespray, HWK

By FirstEarth, in X-Wing

This thread touched on a subject I've been thinking about recently.

Are they going to have to consider releasing the scum Z-95, firesprays and HWKs in individual packs.

Whilst the most wanted pack is a good jumping off point for existing collectors it also makes list building difficult.

Imagine you want to fly three Scum and Villainy Z-95, You'd have to buy two most wanted packs to get the correct dials and ship tokens to be able to play in an official event, which is a bit much expecting players to spend $30< for one Z-95. Yeah you get a bunch of other stuff but what if youre really only after a third Z-95.

The same is true for the HWK, theres lots of comments that a two hawk list is feasible in scumm and villainy but only one dial comes in the pack and if the two unique pilots you want to play are on the same ship token you're going to need another most wanted pack.

Lastly is the firespray. imagine if youre new to the hobby this year and you decide you want to play a firespray in scum and villainy. $25< for the ship + $30< makes a minimum of $55 to field one ship. Now imagine if you want to run Boba and Emon, or even worse the three bounty hunter list.

So basically I'm guessing that within the next year they will be relasing individually packaged scum and villainy ships.

What do you think, do you beleive they are going to keep the most wanted pack as the only way of getting them to turn more profit?

Use the Dials that come with the already existing pack?

Im just after paint schemes.....I love the look of the Scum Y-Wing.....kinda wish they would do the paint schemes for Kath's Firespray and Emon's Firespray. Because in my opinion the models in every pack look fantastic and I would hate to try and create my own paintjob on a ship and screw it up....thats just me... I just dont feel confident enough to do mods like that..

I would think just like wave 1 included shops from the core in individual packs, we'll see a few new pilots printed into an individual pack.

Use the Dials that come with the already existing pack?

That would be fine if it wasnt for the tournament rules stating that you must use the scum dial. I can imagine store championships letting it fly but if you get to a national event or worlds I reckon they'd enforce it. Also you're ignoring the cases where there are two unique pilots on reverse sides of the same ship token.

I very much doubt it.

I think they might. I would love a Binayre Pirate scheme Z95 scum expansion.

I would think that they'll be offered in expansions, just like the Tie and XWings from the core sets!

It seems fairly likely. For the Z-95 and Y-Wing at least. The Hawk and Firespray are a bit less likely as they would need to redesign the ship or come up with new paint schemes (not difficult, granted, but it is more work). The Scum and Villany Expansions feels very similar to a Core set and Cores always get expansions with their individual models released later.

Use the Dials that come with the already existing pack?

I don't see why not.

If ppl complain about your dial reading rebel/empire instead of Scum, well good night to them, the moves are the same. Just keep the dials on the pilotcard, if you'r colors mix with your opponents.

I cannot see this beeing disallowed in tournaments, as of now we(the players) don't know of any existing plans for making Scum dials for HWK's and Firespray's. And it's not like we're not buying these ships either, we do!

I Just got into the hobby, and I am thinking of getting most wanted pack, so I get Z-95's and another Y-wing for my rebels and scum. Then I might get a third separate Z-95 to get some of the rebel-pilots for the ships.

As long as I am not playing in a tournament I see nothing wrong with running the Binayre Pirate card as if it were a Bandit Squadron card(as long as I stay clear of the Illict upgrade), they're the same card.

And now all the scum players can feel the pain of having to buy the Raider for the x1.

Except your only paying $30 for a $15 ship, vs $100 for a $15 ship.

So let's see, in order to get everything you'd need to play at least 2 of each ship, you'd need

$60 2 most wanted

$60 2 Firespray

$30 2 HWK

$150 for 10 ships, average $15 a ship, seems like a good deal considering two are large ships, and you now have a ton of options for squad building. FFG is notorious for milking their LCG model by making players buy products they dont want just to get 1 or 2 cards they need, and honestly this feels pretty generous in comparison to the Tantive, the Transport, and the Raider.

Personally, I just choose not to support FFG's bundling tactics with my money. If that means I don't get access to C-3po, Tarn Mison, or X1/ATC, then so be it, there are other competitive options that don't require me to waste money on ships I'll never fly.

except. I already have 4 Firesprays, and 2 HWKs. so I only need 2 MW boxes to make my scum lists.. .. so .. there's that..

I think they should do the individual releases with alternate paint schemes. Those would be cool.

I'm a bit wary of the cost argument that seems to be going around. If you're broke-as-a-joke, you're not going to be going to be paying the entry fees to tournaments anyway. So the whole argument of the dials and tournaments is getting a bit absurd.

If you're like oneway, and you've got four friggin' Imperial Firesprays - sell off one or two of those NOW, while the Firespray is in greater demand than supply. Then use that money towards Most Wanted.

Also, if you're hard up but really want to play in a tournament - fly the rebels or imperials that you already have. Stop cryin' me a river!

You still had to buy the ships you own. Well, someone had to buy it anyway. And yeah, MW feels like a great deal for thus of us that already own a firespray HWK and YWing, but someone who is newer to the game will get limited use out of MW unless they buy the older ships, although 3 ships for $30-40 is still a great deal.

Yeah, this. People get too caught up in "new toy syndrome". Although I will disagree with you that I think people should be able to compete even if they don't have a ton of money. But you don't need to play Scum to compete, Phantoms, Falcons, TIE Fighters and Decimators are all going to be just as strong when Scum releases.

Like you, I don't believe in a pay-to-win game, or for this to be a rich-man's game. But the way people are carrying on, it's like this is a poll tax or some other civil rights violation.

Most Wanted is $40 retail. And you obviously don't play an LCG. It isn't milking, since a cycle is essentially a full expansion for a normal CCG. I would compare it more to a subscription model.

As for them releasing a Scum Z-95, Y-wing, Firespray, and HWK model, seems doubtful. Otherwise, they would've been released fairly soon afterwards.

Doesn't the Most wanted pack come with multiples of the generic pilots for the Y-wing and Z-95 so you can use your existing ships?

Maybe the individual packs will be Wave 7. They could even include new pilots for Rebel/Imperial in this packs, so everyone will buy it. Add in alternative paint schemes, and you have a perfect wave of expansions.

After that, they can do the ships from the new movie.

With that being said, I highly doubt that it will happen in this way.

Having thought about this for awhile, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if MrkvChain is right on the money. A "Wave 6.5" of extant ships for scum has no real downside for FFG: it solves the issues brought up in this thread, encourages more people into scum, takes a minimal investment of capital or development time in their part, and can come out relatively quickly, with cards and pilots to rebalance any initial issues that players might come across with the scum ships.

After all, the very first expansions they put out in wave 1 did exactly that for the X Wing and TIE fighter, despite the fact that they were already available in the core set.

If I were them I'd be releasing scum paint jobs for all the duplicates, and including an extra scum dial in each one - buy one Y Wing, get a dial to convert your existing one - if they're really generous, they might even offer a spare rebel dial as well.

Of course, none of this does me any good personally - I already have 3 Y Wings and 6 Z-95s. But for the majority of people who weren't as silly as me, this would be a very useful product, and given how little it would cost FFG, I really wouldn't be at all surprised to see it in the near future.

For me, I like the ships and any reason to buy more just means I get to own more COOL ships! The ships sucked me into trying the game, then the simple flying mechanics locked me in for sure! What is more cool than having an entire fleet of awesome looking ships from a movie series that has held ones imagination for 38 years!?!

You say using the existing dials would be fine at Store Championships, but not at Nationals or Worlds? Who is gonna turn up at Worlds who doesn't already have three of every single expansion ever?

Ebay sellers will be breaking up the pack to make more cash anyway. Pick it up from them if paying over-the-odds for a single ship bothers you.

:D

Also, if I did sell one, I would never scalp it.. probably let it go for 25 becuase its used.. I just won't screw over someone to make a buck..

I have no doubt that scum will get reprints or an aces pack.
