Storing dials

By Scurvy Lobster, in X-Wing

My X-wing Miniatures collection is getting HUGE. I can build 100 point squads with most ship types and now wave 6 is on the doorstep.

I use the Feldherr backpack for transporting everything and it's great but one thing is starting to use up too much space: dials. I store my dials lined up in pluck foam but I think I want to move them some where else to free up space for new ships.

Does anyone have a better way of storing these circular cardboard devils?

Might I sugest Lego?

Dials become a real pain to store. More-so than any other part of the game. For my battlefoam case, I've included enough circular holes to fit all my dials + expected future dials. Still creates an issue in terms of retrieving them though, since you can't immediately see what is below the dial on top.

Plastic bag. You know, the ones that the tokens and base inserts come in.

Buy a tube of Pringles, toss the cardboard they store in it in a bin.

I used to use a few Plano trays in an old laptop bag, but my collection grew. Now, I have a large sized Plano and I keep the dials in the tray with the ships.

I'm worried, though, that with S&V and the Wave 5 ships, I won't have room even in that!

I think I am going to have to use Tuck Boxes for the bigger ships and store them in the top. Right now, I have the Tantive IV up there, all the FAQ's, spare lists, and two card board boxes from store champs for my cards. I'll have to clean that all up now.

I use a Stanley storage box for all of my parts other than the models themselves. For the dials, I have a baggie for each ship type and put all of the dials and pilot tokens for that ship in the baggie. When I want to play, it makes it pretty quick to open the container and find the baggie with everything I need for each ship.

I use a kitchen aluminium foil carboard box with a foam sheet filler.

That's rather clever! I assume you removed the metal teeth? How do you move it around or store it? You could use velcro on the lid to keep it down, as well.

Yes of course!

I taped the outside to protect the cardboard and use 2 rubber bands to keep it closed.

This way I can just put it in my backpack without fear of spilling.

All of my dials and cardboard bases go into the plastic bags that plastic bases come with when i bought the ships and then those get dropped into compartments in my Plano. X-Wings, Interceptors, and TIE Fighters are an exception with a larger plastic bag for all the bases and the dials going straight into their own compartment. It might take up a little more space but I think it makes it easier to find things.

battle foam bag with 2" circular cut outs next to the ship base cutouts placed next to the Ships.. segregate the stacks Ys in one stack Bs in another etc. AND keep complete treys segregated as rebels/ scum or Imperials that way when you get more new ships you can move to an additional bag and have one bag per faction. and if you stick to the same size bag the transition is easy.
