Evacuation of Hoth questions

By Psilon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have a few questions about the Rebel Transport campaign:

  1. What's the size of the playing field for H1/H2/H3?
  2. Are asteroids used in H1 or H2? It would appear not, but it's worth checking.
  3. Can generic Rebel ships listed on the roster be taken more than once in a mission? For example, can I bring a ten-Headhunter swarm to H3 by listing Bandit Squadron Pilot only once?
  4. If cloning generic ships is permitted, can they come pre-equipped? For example, can I list "Blue Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors" without needing to list Advanced Sensors in the Resources column?
  5. Can a unique Rebel ship be downgraded to multiple generic ships? For example, can I downgrade Tycho Celchu into a pair of Green Squadron Pilots?
  6. If a unique Rebel ship survives a mission, can free upgrades replace preexisting upgrades? For example, can I replace Luke Skywalker's R2 Astromech with R2-D2?
  7. Conversely, can Resources replace free upgrades? For example, can I replace Tycho's Chardaan Refit with Proton Rockets for added punch?
  8. On the subject of Chardaan Refit, can it be taken as part of a free upgrade to give seven more points to its A-wing instead of five? For example, can (note: not "should") I put Expose, Stealth Device, Chardaan Refit, and A-wing Test Pilot onto an unmodified Arvel Crynyd this way?
  9. If the GR-75 survives a mission, can it receive the 5 points' worth of free upgrades?
  10. If the GR-75 rams Imperial ships to flee the board during H1 and takes fatal damage in the process, who wins the mission?
  11. Comedy question: Assuming you could fit an Imperial Raider into 100 points, would it be functionally immortal in H1 and H3 due to the reinforcement rules?

1. Standard play zone of 90x90 (or 3' x 3')

2. No asteroids in H1-H2

3. No

4. Cloning is not permitted. It seems that only unique ships and the GR-75 can recieve upgrade cards when planning the initial rebel roster sheet.

5. No

6. The free upgrades are 'additional' upgrades, so, the previous ones stay.

7. No. For each mission, you must field the unique ship with its assigned upgrades in the fleet section, even if those upgrades were lost in a previous mission. Resources can only 'fill in blanks', not replace existing upgrades.

8. Yes, as long as the total points don't exceed 5. Since Chardaan counts as -2 points, it would effectively give '7' total points to the A-wing.

9. It seems that only unique ships can recieve free upgrades after each mission. Whether the transport is considered 'unique' or not in the campaing context, is debatable. While it certainly can recieve 'starting' upgrade cards when designing the roster sheet, ad cautionem, I'd say no free upgrade cards after each mission.

10. Imperials. The transport must flee with part of a section of it still in the board. Since it is destroyed by ramming damage, it's immediately removed from the play area, so no section of it remains on the board to claim victory.

11. I don't believe reinforcements rule would apply to huge ships. But even in the crazy event that they applied, the GR75 could still permanently destroy the Raider by ramming it for its last point(s) of damage.

I have a question about hoth also. Can anyone help?

The rebel side selects unique ships for his "fleet" (Y-wing "Dutch" Vander). During a mission he selects to trade out that unique ship with a non-unique ship (Y-wing Gold Squadron). this is allowed in the build rebel squad section on page 7. At the end of the mission one of the rebel effects is to erase the rows of unique ships destroyed in the last mission. The unique ship that was destroyed is replaced by the non-unique with the lowest point value.

So, my question is when you substitute a non-unique ship in for the unique ship in the 200 point fleet what happens to the ship and upgrades when it is destroyed?

Do you erase it even though it was substituted or do you ignor that effect because it is no longer a unique ship?

We ignored it when I played because a unique ship hadn't actually been destroyed. Note, though, that if the Imperials win the mission they're allowed to wipe out the original unique ship (Dutch in your case) because he wasn't actually fielded in the mission.
