Hello I'm looking for a way to store my x wing so I was curious how everyone else does it
What do you keep your miniatures in?
I use Plano trays from the fishing section at Walmart. Some people use Battlefoam for the protection, but I've been using these trays for two years now without any damage from the little bit of sliding around they do.
Currently I have one of the Battlefoam 432s, but as it is fairly expensive to buy new custom foam trays as more waves release, I am looking at the much cheaper option of a Plano case or bag. Several of the locals have them, and they hold so much for so much less than I paid.
What ever you get, make sure you have room for more.
I use a wooden box about 45x45x30 cm (which is at capacity now so i'm going to have to find another solution when scum & villany comes out) and a plano box to store the tokens and templates etc.
If i get a chance, i'll post a photo later.

I started the same way but now use the Flambeau brand Walmart also sells. With a little modification I have found a tray for every ship so far released, including the CR 90.
With an old computer carrying harness I can keep expanding so my storage never becomes obsolete.
I can't link picasa to this web forum so if you are curious you can see the images here.

Edited by Stelar 7Plano 1374. Holds both my rebels and imperials with a little room to spare and I have at least 1 or more of all of the ships and expansions. No room for epic ships though but I don't carry those around all the time anyway.
I have 2 Plano 5231 cases ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HJ9514 ), one for Rebel and one for Empire. They are totally maxed out and I haven't bought all of the defender, firesprays, y-wings that I want to own yet. Also, since Wave 5 ships are all large, I had to move all of my large ships to a Stanley SortMaster ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RL9E16 ).
So I think I will probably buy another 5231 for my S&V but I think I will need a larger bag to carry everything. I wouldn't normally take everything with me to my FLGS, but running a casual league, I need to be able to demo games and help lend out stuff if needed.
The plastic boxes that come with the game.

how did you modify it? did you just cut off some walls?
Yeah,
If you look at the images you can see some of the Flambeau containers have irregular compartments. I used a blade to take out plastic I didn't want and then line the bottom with open cell foam. That keeps things from getting damaged. Foam also helps hold things where the plastic they came with didn't work like the Y and A wings. I was unable to convert the Reb Aces B wing storage due to the angle so that ship lives on foam too.
Then extra tokens, bases and whatnot live in boxes that don't travel.
Setup and takedown can be annoying, but once play starts all I need is the small Plano for tokens.
Plano 1374, all the way. Here's the link that made me decide on it--some nice pictures in that thread:
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1038560/one-plano-tackle-box-three-base-sets-and-everythin/page/1
Some comments, based on my own experience so far:
--I store everything in there, and then use one (additional) 3750 to carry whatever list(s) I intend to play that day, leaving the 1374 at home.
--The 3700 series has four narrow rows, suitable for small ships; the 3750s have two narrow and one wide row--which is suitable for the large ships. Either fits interchangably in the 1374.
--The 3750 will comfortably store the Transport, but the Tantive (and presumably the Raider) will need to go in the top bin.
--Plano may be a bit inconsistent: the 1374 on Amazon advertises that it comes with four 3700s. The one I purchased at Canadian Tire came with four 3750s. I personally think the 3750s are far more useful.
--There appear to be 'generations' to the 3700s and 3750s; at least, my own 3750s don't quite match the pictures in the link above; I could not fit a Falcon the way he does without modification, for example.
--I used LePage plastic super-glue to (carefully!) glue one wide divider in the middle of the slots in most of my bins, just wide enough to fit the large bases in a corner. This makes the next section just wide enough to fit a Falcon or a VT-49, I tested it. ; ) Works perfectly.
--I use bubble wrap on some ships (such as A-Wings) to help keep them from rattling around.
--I currently own two base sets and one of everything else except the Bomber and Tantive (which I don't want) and the Interceptor (which I can't find anywhere in Canada). With the 3750 I cart around for gaming filled up, the rest of my collection takes up less than half the four 3750s in the 1374. Making room for the new S&V release content will be easy.
Advantages over foam: FAR less expensive, and freely adjustable as my collection grows.
Disadvantages: some initial time and effort needed to get things properly organized, and there's a very very small risk of damage to the ships if you don't store them properly.
Side note:
I use an Ultra-Pro Pro-Dual deck box for all my cards:

Here's a picture of it open:

The one tray that's meant to store Magic cards sideways fits the upgrade cards almost perfectly, particularly when sleeved. One box is still sufficient to hold my entire collection (sleeved) atm, although with S&V I will likely need a second.
Hope that helps!

I use these also, and will be heading down to the hardware shop for another for S&V most likely, though I could get away with a pluckfoam tray for them for a while.. I have y large ships in pluckfoam, works out really nice and they fit in my Star Wars themed tote bag as well..
The Feldherr backpack. I wrote about it here .
Yeah, the Plano 5231 is popular but I've seen more of this model of late

Double up. I use Plano 3-28 containers and an Abu Garcia bag. Works great.
storing? on a now not so empty shelf
I used to use this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001ECQPVQ/ref=pd_aw_sbs_hi_2?refRID=17ATPKYH44S08HHB1RAP
in combination with one of the 5231 boxes, but they lacked enough variety in compartments to store a bunch of large ships, I couldn't fit the huge ships in and they got to small for me.
switched to this, much bigger:

make sure you buy it from Walmart though, every where else wants like 70 bucks for it.
Edited by AdmiralThrawnI used a yoyo case, works perfectly! I can fit a ship and its corresponding dial in the same slot. It's also made out of foam for protection. I'll post a picture when I get home.
+1 to plano 1374. Its huge! The top slot can hold the huge ships, and templates. And the other slots can hold all the ships.
thank you for all the ideas, really appreciate it.
Here's my Plano 1374:
Since this picture, I've gotten another store champ box to use up here. I've been keeping my FAQ's and spare lists up there, but think I need to get some tuck boxes for some of the bigger ships.
I keep all my ships on the pegs and haven't had them damaged in 2 years.
I've got a tray for my counters:
I think I have to evict these ships to make room for the S&V, but we shall see. Maybe move the tokens?
I am starting to even get to the end of this.
People love the Battlefoam, KR Mulicase, etc., but they can easily cost you more than $100. While looking nice, why do you need that much protection for these guys? Are you flying with them? I'm not. I have some foam for other systems, but it's just not worth the cost for X-wing. Plus, I like having my ships on stands already.

Yeah, I just looked at KR Multicase doing the autofill. It would cost me £ 219.95/$334 for the trays and a case. I just can't see anyway I could justify that much money on a storage/transport system. I mean that's like 22 small ships at MSRP.
It's one thing if you put together and painted a Warhammer army that is your pride and joy....not to mention worth $1000 as it is. It's another thing if one of your $9 ships (talking online prices) breaks in some way that you can't fix. I haven't had anything break yet (except for dropping) and even if it did, it would be cheaper to replace. I dunno....maybe these executive X-wing players who travel the globe looking for the top events. I would hate to lose the Monaco Invitational because my ships were broken as the WhizKid Star Trek goons knocked my Italian sports car off a cliff. We all know there is a shortage and I wouldn't be able to replace them.
I have the Battlefoam P.A.C.K. 432 molle bag with "x-wing load out" option plus ordered a couple of custom cut foam trays for it. really holds everything perfectly, Highly recomended
