Android: Netrunner Miniatures Game?

By jsfree, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

Hey,

I was thinking the other day that it would be nice to have an Android: Netrunner tabletop miniatures game. There exist enough factions and lore in the card game for this possibility to be explored. I can see miniatures (preferably painted), cards, tokens, tiles (like those in Imperial Assault and Descent), and other ideas that come to mind. I just do not think there is enough of this type of game out there and FFG has done such a great job with Star Wars and Descent, why not !?! Please give me a shout out of what you think and maybe if there is enough support for this, an FFG Dev might even read this and have an epiphany !

Netrunner specifically, or an Android minis game? What would be the focus? What would be the scale? The premise? Needs more fleshing out before I could really weigh in.

Yeah guys, it could be like set in the cyberspace during a run. You would have a runner with a retinue of programs (with hardware and resources acting as upgrade cards like in X-Wing) versus a corp player with ice, as well as assets and upgrades (which are actual physical terrain pieces and associated stat cards that influence the battlefield/play area). The corp player also has an agenda card, which act as his "identity card", defining how his cyber army plays and having a victory point condition that the runner needs to meet to win (which he does by interacting with the battlefield environment: shutting down ice, hacking into data nodes which have been/can be altered by the corp's assets/upgrades etc).

The game would dice based - each player starts their turn by rolling up a pool, which you can re-roll once. The dice are your actual clicks; you spend them to activate and do stuff with your programs/ice/whatever, but the number values (or symbols) on the dice in your pool also determine which special actions/abilities you can trigger/do with your cyber dudes that turn.

In addition, corp players would have to wear suits, and both players would earn extra victory points by making as many sci-fi references as possible during the game.

I sort of like the card game. First of all cyberspace is an abstract space that only exists in science fiction. However card games excel in setting up abstract space. The best card games I learned are those that make the most out of that abstract space. MTG has land used as economy but represents the amount of influence you must gain in order to get creatures (ie having your affluence expand over 3 plains to summon a hero) as well as flying mechanics and tap mechanics that abstractly give position depth to a game that is rather flat and static.

A miniature game would be tough because you would have to simulate a static meatspace and then an abstract and intangible cyberspace. Netrunner does the great job by focusing mostly on cyberspace but leave elements of the physical world and how they influence actions as well.

Infinity is already very in line with the art and themes of Android Netrunner, though the gameplay is more special ops focused than hacking (hacking still has a role in Infinity). It would be cool to see a miniatures game but I think that Infinity already does a good job for this style of universe.

I think there is a Shadowrun miniature game right? An Android game would work the same way
