Getting the most out of the Aggressor.

By Grave13, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So its only been a couple of days since the Aggressor has been spoiled. And alrwady this is just one of the many posts on this new Scum and Villany ship.

Now it seems to be a huge debate on a few elements of this new ship. There is the issue of what cannon is the best for the Aggressor? Already I have seen HLC on every varriant of the aggressor...so much that it seems this is the cannon everyone is betting a sure thing on using. What happend to Ion cannons? and Mangler cannons?

Next question is using upgrades that cause stress such as Push the Limit, Expert Handling and Experimental Interface. Now the debate here is some people nay say the use of said upgrades on the aggressor because the fact is they cause stress.. Now many will say that this should not matter due to all the green that is on the Aggressors dial that it should have no problem in clearing the stress and I will agree with this as well. But if one is to equip these upgrades what would be the ideal choice to equip to gain the most out of without the chance of double stressing the Aggressor.

I honestly dont see where everyone will agree on one build arctype for the agressor being the most popular varriants are B, C, and D. These out of the Aggressors offer the most out of offensive and deffensive play... so with that said what can we come up with for competitive Aggressor builds? Do you see a deffensive build or an offensive build doing better in a competive invironment?

IG-88C I think will be the most used of the variants. With PtL and FCS it has the best action economy in the game. The only other upgrade I'd expect to see is Autothrusters.

I think the IG-88 C and D pair up will be used alot in future tournys. I can picture them kitted out with expert handling or push the limit with heavy laser cannons and auto thrusters and advance sensors or experimental interface....those are the upgrades i think are going to be the most popular on the C and D aggressors.

I think everyone will go for Auto Thrusters.

I think the Mangler is a good cannon and people will start to use it, but there are those that love the HLC. It's hard for me to justify the expense of it, though.

Personally, I think PTL might not be the best on this ship as it likes to do crazy moves. I don't think stressing it out will be the best thing. Then again, I could be wrong.

With Advanced Sensor, you can get your action, PTL then do green manoeuvre and end up with no stress.

Adv Sensors is key

A couple different looks at the Aggressor:
IG-88B (36)
+ IG2000 (0)
+ Ion Cannon (3)
+ Push the Limit (3)
+ Autothrusters (2)
+ Fire-Control System (2)
+ Flechette Cannon (2)
+ Seismic Charges (2)
IG-88C (36)
+ IG2000 (0)
+ Ion Cannon (3)
+ Push the Limit (3)
+ Autothrusters (2)
+ Fire-Control System (2)
+ Flechette Cannon (2)
+ Seismic Charges (2)

This is the action efficiency team. PtL for Focus and Boost, which nets a free Evade, and FCS provides Target Locks. You'll perpetually be doing greens, which isn't so bad with 9 of them, but you will be travelling in the same direction every turn as well as susceptible to additional stress. With 88B and FCS, Flechette and Ion Cannons provide a wealth of control options. As do the Seismic Charges. Autothrusters are, of course, good against the current proliferation of turrets.

IG-88C

IG-88C

This is the unpredictable team. Between 88C, Advanced Sensors, Boosting, the S-loops, and Inertial Dampeners, no one is going to know where you'll end up. Autothrusters, 88B, and Predator allow for some dice modification even after performing your red maneuvers. The 5 points spent on bombs could be anything else, they just filled out the points nicely.

IG-88A (36)

This is the super annoying to kill team. That's it, that's all I was trying to do here, LOL.

I love this ship. It's a jack of all trades. You can make it do anything you want. I'm curious who's going to run their IG-88s with different upgrades (unlike the lists above, which use the same for both ships). I'm sure we'll see a "how-to" article from Sable soon enough, anyway.

This is the list I am dying to try:

IG-88B

Vet Instincts

Fire-Control System

Mangler Cannon

IG-2000 Title

Auto Thrusters

Proton Bomb

IG-88C

Vet Instincts

Fire-Control System

Mangler Cannon

IG-2000 Title

Auto Thrusters

Proton Bomb

I love the idea of these guys going in at PS8 instead of 6. Also, I have never really tried bombs before but with the crazy movement of the Aggressor paired with the fact that it will more than likely be surrounded the idea of leaving a present behind and pulling an S-loop is kind of exciting.

Here's what I'm planning to try when I get my two Aggressors.

IG-88C (36)

IG2000 (0)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Stay On Target (2)

Auto-Thrusters (2)

Advanced Sensors (3)

IG-88D (36)

IG2000 (0)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Stay On Target (2)

Auto-Thrusters (2)

Advanced Sensors (3)

I think Stay On Target is a viable choice, especially at speed 3, with the C & D Aggressor pair. Other options for this build are replacing the HLC with the Mangler, SoT with PTL and adding a Seismic Charge.
