another discussion on ship roles versus what new ships we need in the game.

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

we have the bomber for the empire, so is the missile gunboat valid to put into this game?

I could only imagine it would be a large ship with more ordnance slots, but most already think ordnance is overpriced for what you get. so would this just be a large ship that wouldn't see any play?

what about the TIE droid? we already have academy pilot at 12 points for swarms, as much as I love the TIE droid design and concept, is it viable in this game? I hope so, I would love to see it.

there is also the transport for space troopers, could we possibly see a ship that carries smaller ships (space troopers) and drops them off during a battle?

the GHOST from Rebels, we already have 2 YT ships for the rebels, what would this bring to the game that isn't already there? again, a larger ship that carries and drops a smaller ship during battle?

just questions to see what you all think, thanks

Depends on what they could do with missiles or torpedoes. Perhaps such a ship could be used to overhaul the whole system and make Ord actually worth taking. With S&V I wouldn't mind something that effectively replaced the Firespray but was more Imperial in look. Then I could use my Firespray as a S&V only ship.

what about the TIE droid?

Not sure what it would offer. FFG said they won't price a ship under 12 points, so is there room for another cheap swarm ship for the Empire?

yeah, that's just it, I really want to see the TIE droid, but im afraid its not going to happen unless they come up with some special cool droid rule for the ship.

The Skipray Blastboat would be a great adition for S&V. Its nothing like other S&V ships, with a turret and lots of hull. It has many pilots and the design is cool.

Scum has lots of things out there to bring in. The T-Wing, R41, Planetary Fighter, Toscan Fighter, Cloakshape... The Hutt Fighters and Black Sun fighters from SW Galaxies.... Bounty hunters like the Misthunter, the Punishing One, the Baudo Yacht, the Stinger, the Hound's Tooth or the Slave II.

yes, there are a lot of ships, but which ones will fill a roll that is not currently being filled?

yes it would be cool to see all the ships from Star Wars in this game, but if you are just putting similar stats on a different model, why bother? who will buy them?

who will buy them?

Who will buy more Star Wars toys? Hmmm...

I'd like to see the Skipray, ideally it would be a design shared by Scum and the Empire. I understand that the TIEs will remain Empire only, but at present Scum look (to me) like they'll play in a similar manner to the Terrorists at the minute.

The Rebels are built around synergy, the Scum are built around independence. They have buffs for doing their own thing (rather than flying in formation) and very, very few buffs for working together. Even then, working together is dubious: Serissu is the only close range buff and the other ally buffs are more parasitic than synergistic.

The Imperial Aces and Rebel Aces seem to sell quite well, and they dont have similar stats as other ships, they have exactly the same stats.

They're the same ship.

Very similar ships would sell, but they'd run the risk of rendering each other obsolete. The more similar two ships are, the more directly they can be compared.

Tie Droid:

1/1/2/0

PS 1

15 points.

Title:

Combat hive mind (Tie Droid only)

For each other friendly ship equipped with the Combat Hive Mind title, gain 1 attack 1 Agility, and 1 Pilot Skill.

10 points

sooo... 25 points a ship? im paying 50 points for 2 2/2/2/0 ith a 2 pilot skill? and 100 points gets me 4 ships all pilot skill 4 4/4/2/0 . im still only fielding 8 hull? I don't think ill be do that. good day sir.

Needs an "on the field" caveat, and either a title cost reduction or the standard TIE hull value.

Well, no one hates the idea, just the exact execution. So I'll take that as a good baseline to experiment with. :)

The problem is that I don't want any 5/5 ships floating about.

Hm:

Tie Droid

10 pts

1/1/2/0

Title:

2 pts

Combat hive mind (Tie Droid only)

For every 2 friendly ships on the field equipped with the Combat Hive Mind title, gain 1 attack 1 Agility, and 1 Pilot Skill. Round down.

So you can have 8 4/4/2/0 floating about, but that quickly becomes 7 3/3/2/0 ships. It would be a fun battle of attrition against a rebel force. Or a great 1/3 of an Epic list. :)

Minimum point cost is 12.

Role is irrelevant. The status of the ship as accessible to the faction is not. Missile boats were totally locked down to the Empire, The XG-1 on the other hand...

Tie Droid-

2 att.

3 evade

0 shields

2 hull

PS 0

All white dial, no actions, no upgrades

When another ship collides with you, or you collide with a ship, roll a damge die and take any Hit or crit hit rolled

11 or 10 points

I think the empire needs a ship that uses an astromech. Perhaps a TIE Scout? Additionally I wouldn't mind seeing ships with different firing arcs. Maybe a ship that has higher damage but a very narrow arc, or possibly a ship that only shoots sideways? I'd like to see some arc diversity.

ok, ok, ok

Ive got it. we have been thinking of the TIE droid as a fragile swarm ship, stop it.

I remember fighting them in Rogue squadrons bonus missions on PC.

they were fast, and agile, and hard as hell to hit!!!!

so try this

stat line is identical to academy pilot

PS=1

A=2

E=3

H=3

S=0

ACTIONS= EVADE / FOCUS / BOOST / BARREL ROLL

Now for the fun stuff:

DIAL=Same as TIE but all white (yes even K-turn)

If ship is ever given a Stress token, discard it.

May perform 2 actions during the perform action step

23 points each

Assault GunBoat

Idea:

TIE Droid pack comes with two ships that, when used, share a single pilot card. Each ship gets a bonus (depending on pilot ability) when they both perform the same manoeuvre, action or attack in the same turn. Effect is cumulative with additional TIE Droid packs.

This would make a pack of TIE Droids lethal when they are able to clone each others moves, however if the swarm is disrupted then the bonuses would be tricky to regain as it involves a few rounds of herding stray TIEs back into the group.

I think if they wanna do droids for imperial just make drods who are imperial only and take up a crew slot. shuttles had droids but they were never in imperial ships like the "slots" the rebels had for them.

Well, now we have _2_ good ideas for tie droids. A "regular" and a "heavy". Just gotta make sure the heavy can't benefit from the Combat Hive Mind title!

And minimum cost may be 10 for Fantasy Flight. Not true for Shapeways.

I think it's fine if two ships within a faction fill the same role, as long as they do it in a significantly different way. A-wings and Z95 both fill the role of a cheep missile carrier or filler ship, but they each do it in their own way, that gives the player the ability to choose the one that suits their play-style.

Personally, I like TIE bombers better than TIE fighter for mini swarms, because I prefer their dial and higher hull value so I'll always take 4 Scimitars over 4 Academy Pilots if I have the points. I like the ideas of a support ship but I hate the Shuttle, so I'd love to see a small base support ship like the TIE/ew filling that role.

I like that each new wave is offering something new to the game, be it a new maneuver or upgrade cards.

I am liking the way they are making more and more things ship or faction specific.

someone mentioned the skipray, that would fill the roles of bomber and base ship, it would give the decimator a hell of a fight I think
