What's your favorite Western movie/series?

By Robin Graves, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Strangely enough . As much of a Clint fan as i am i couldnt get into 2 Mules. No idea why

SO anybody know of any other variants on the Seven Samurai story?

I have

Magnificent seven

Hawk the slayer (fantasy)

Battle beyond the stars (space opera)

World Gone Wild (post apocalypse)

Ironclad (medieval)

I know there is an anime variation as well but i still think im missing one

Last Man Standing

I love that movie but I totally ignored the homage to For A Few Dollars More the first time I watched it.

Love it as well. another one that has a good pedigree. From Yojimbo, to Fistful of dollars to Django (sort of) to Last man standing. Pretty much the iconic lone gunman story

Once upon a time in the west.

The wild bunch.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid.

Silverado.

Blazing saddles.

Geronimo.

Red river.

Pretty much everything Clint ever did in the west, but especially Pale Rider.

And please, no more mention of that horrid Firefly show. I just ate a little too much at my local Mexican restaurant, and my stomach isn't feeling too good.

I do like your choices! Eastwood is the man!

Oh my god, thats epic, firefly was my fave coba guy after stormshadow. I've been trying to track down a mid 80s version for not silly money for ages but a 12" of him night have to be bought.

Best films

Outlaw Josey Wale (unbeatable)

The proposition (its an Australian 'western') but the genre is there

Worst Fiilm

Brad Pitts jesse james.... beautifully shot but boring as heck

Best series

Deadwood then firefly

Deadwood was so frustrating, ditto firefly, in that an epic series gets cancelled because its a bit too cerebral for the majority of morons while toss like 'buffy' and 'angel' run for decades.

Firefly is the greatest example of cinematic injustice ever.

deadwood was gearing up to be so brutal. I wish even if thy could not have made a fourth series they had made a 'for tv movie' to resolve the plot issues.

It was such a 'fizzle out' the way it ended.

The wife hates westerns but since then she's started doing 'flying lead' western larp with me.

Its ace, we play the 'blackfoot' tribe living near shingle springs. We're native americans and *historically* our costumes are nonesene (we're more like iroqui from a hundred years earlier the way we look) but we needed to make ourselves look suitably 'different' from the 'western dude' players. We did this with distinct 'costume' as we dont have the right skin tones and using make up to deepen it coudl be construed as well racist, we did dye our hair black though and put extensions in!

As you can see, we'd be more 'last of the mohicans' than 'deadwood' but its great to spent three days in the forest in a built up pioneer camp and 'injun village', trading, arguing, drinking and occasionally fighting.

One event we coudlnt get enough of the 'tribe' together so my buddy evo and I went as 'Gott and Himmel' two german emigrant undertakers. Here we are making a coffin entirely with 1900s hand tools. Took us two bloomin days and caused a lot of blisters!

My fave clint eastwood film is actually 'gran torrino' he's totally badass in that.

Mine is Bridges of madison..I cant even say it *L* He is good enough to pull off about any role but i prefer him in his son of a ***** mode.
I forgot about the Proposition. More Nick Cave goodness as well

Favorite Eastwood movie: Where Eagles Dare. Clint and Richard Burton blowing the crap out of Nazis.

I actually bought a reversible wwii german parka even before i did wwii re-enacting as i thought they looked really cool in that movie.

The movie ones are pretty poor repros now i know a fair bit about it. Proper 'sumpmuster 43/white' parkas look loads better but still look like 'eagle dares' one to anyone who has seen the film :)

Mine was Zartan, THEN Stormshadow, and for some reason I got trough half the 80's without knowing Firefly existed! (this is with me owning a cobra ferret- in wich he's on the boxart!)

Also, did you have to say "twelve inches of him"? :D

Sideshow collectables also does Storm shadow:

and crimson guard Cobra commander! (wich i think is awesome!)

Okay, back on topic.

Yeah, a lot of fans (all of them?) were upset they axed Firefly.

But for greatest cinematic injustice I'd have to say:

TRON not getting the oscar for best SFX! The one (ONE!) movie in wich CGI actually looks (a 100%) what it's suposed to be, and the movie doesn't even get's nominated because the academy considered usings computers for special effects was "cheating" GAAAAAAAHHHHhh!!! F U hollywood! (Screw it i'm done, where's my Red Lantern ring?)

Didn't read the thread and I don't really like westerns...

But does firefly count? And has anyone played the board game...I have it all but blue sun at the moment and it's wonderful...captured the show perfectly.

Oh yes. The Alamo both versions. It sort of fits within the genre.

It annoys me that a lot of media types and political correctness watchdogs try to diminish the heroism of it. Sadly they do the same in my country with films like Zulu

To bad it has nothing on the Battle of Camaron.

French foreign legion vs mexican army.

It ends with 5 legionaires against 2000 mexicans.

Surrounded.

Besieged.

Out of ammo.

What do they do?

Bayonet Charge.

At that point, may as well.
