What's your favorite Western movie/series?

By Robin Graves, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Wait, wait! There's a connection between westerns and x-wing, I swear!

X-wing > Star wars > Firefly > Westren

You can see it to, right? :)

My faves are*:

High plains drifter

The Outlaw Josey wales

Unforgiven

* Can you tell I'm a big Clint Eastwood fan? ;)

And yet no Man with no Name film?

A Fistfull of Dollars

Big Jake

They Died With Their Boots On counts, right?

Once upon a time in the west.

The wild bunch.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid.

Silverado.

Blazing saddles.

Geronimo.

Red river.

Pretty much everything Clint ever did in the west, but especially Pale Rider.

And please, no more mention of that horrid Firefly show. I just ate a little too much at my local Mexican restaurant, and my stomach isn't feeling too good.

Firefly.

Once uoon a time in the west

Django

The last outlaw

Dollar trilogy

Tombstone

The Wild Bunch

The quick and the dead

Firefly

Oh, the best western series is of course Deadwood.

And yet no Man with no Name film?

Technically "high plains drifter" counts. No name is given for Eastwood's character...

I do like your choices! Eastwood is the man!

Gonna go with firefly too.

Just to see what will happen... FIREFLY!!!!!

Seriously: Blazing Saddles, Support Your Local Sheriff, and Tombstone.

Oh. And Oblivion. Not the recent Cruise film but the early 90s SF Western from Full Moon studios the guys responsible for my favourite movie Vampire. guest appearance by George takei. It was daft but entertaining

Yeah, but that's not what I meant. I'm talking about Fisful of Dollars, For a few dollars more and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Once upon a time in the west can't be dismissed either of course :P

There's Dances with Wolves of course and the Coen brothers' version of True Grit.

Lonesome Dove.

They just DON'T make television that epic anymore. Worth watching if for no other reason than the amazing chemistry between Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones.

And it's also got quite a bit of good humor in it. "We don't rent pigs", LOL!

TV -- the old Maverick series with James Garner and others

Comics -- Jonah Hex

A lot of good choices but one is missing....

Anything with John Wayne and Sam Elliot works as well.

I'm surprised all you Firefly fans didn't list Briscoe County Jr.

Really more of a sci-fi fan.

Even though it's not a western but has been used as inspiration for both westerns and Star Wars, how about Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Another TV show that comes to mind is Wild, Wild West with Robert Conrad playing James West, Secret Service agent during the Grant presidentcy.

The magnificent seven is almost a copy of Kutosawa's masterpiece. so I'll accept it. Great movie.

The series was good. The movie was- a good inspiration for your deadlands RPG sessions, let's leave it at that. ;)

The dwarf sais "you never told me your name" as he's painting the name on the tombstone of the dead marshall, just as Clint's character answers: "I think you already know" - so it's only implied. Eastwood is billed as "the strangers" in the credits.

I really like that whole hinted at revenge from beyond the grave thing they were going for in this movie. That and Eastwood playing an utter badass bastard. Oh and last but not least him having the townsfolk literally paint the town red, rename it "Hell" and puts up a "welcome home" banner for the bad guys.

Lol All of the Propieters , law , and mayor conspired to kill Sherrif Duncan and hide his body except for Sarah Belding...Sarah hints to it by saying a soul is unrest in an unmarked grave...Needless to say that The Stranger never says his name ; but it is clear that his name was Marshall Jim Duncan...It is a fitting revenge fest complete with humiliation and despair fear and loathing...

True, but i like it that they only heavily imply it rather than flat out stating it.

Oh yeah , when the stranger starts picking off the villains one by one in the burning village, I almost felt sorry for them. And when he leaves the town is just wrecked.
