The "Other" Tournament Results site

By stmack, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

First here's a link to the site: http://xwing.macker.co/

So tournament season is upon us and we just had the first big weekend of tournaments. I've been able to gather results from 10 different tournaments in the past week and 30 in the past month but I'm always looking for more data so feel free to send me links to battle reports or winning lists, etc. Try to include date, venue, location and attendance if you can.

Since there's so much new data coming in I decided to make some improvements around the site. One of the biggest new features is being able to change the date range of the included data. This is done at the bottom of most pages and currently allows to select how many days worth of data you want to include (working backwards from the current date). The default is 90 days but once changed it will reflect the new range across all pages you visit.

Aside from there there's more information readily available, percentage of time upgrades are used with pilots, pilot abilities, ship usage percentage, etc, etc.

Personally I've found it a great resource to see what people are winning with so I know what to expect and what I'll likely need to be able to beat next time I'm in a tournament.

Would love any feedback about the site, questions or comments about what you like or what's missing for you. I know it's not the greatest UI but I'm a backend guy so I'm doing my best!

Thanks for checking it out, good luck at your next tournament :)

Neat site. Keep up the nice work.

Would you be interested in being handed a JSON file with tournament results designed to make it easy to import the data? In the other-other thread I suggested a format like:

https://gist.github.com/elistevens/2f63cc3a542afeebb783

I'm currently trying to gauge interest. Perhaps something could come together the way it did for the XWS spec. Thoughts?

Hi Wicked, ya that format seems like it'd definitely be useful! Thanks for offering, let me know if there's anything I can help with.

Hi guys, so I'm trying to spruce up the site a bit before S&V hits. Have made some changes like adding more info on a few pages, notably you can now see top builds for a ship (instead of just pilots) on the respective ships page and you can now also see top ranked squads on the pilots page so you no longer have to pick a build before being able to see what kinds of squadmates are popular with a given pilot.

Another thing I've added is comments. My plan is to keep the comments section clean and useful so I've made it so comments have to be approved before they show up to start (I may change this) and I've put a cap of 280 characters per comment (twice that of a tweet!). The goal is to be able to keep it on topic and informational so what I really want to see in there are links to BatReps, links to guides, relevant questions, etc. (Good examples: Tournament with link to batrep, tournament with link to video of finals)

Moving forward I plan on linking "my sources" for each entry but right now I'd appreciate it if you could share some battle reports or guides you may have read or written that should be linked. You can respond here with them or feel free to actually go and add the comments yourselves. (ps the comment entry is pretty primitive so if you just want to throw a link in there I can do the html tags to make it pretty when I approve it)

As always, would love suggestions and feedback, also if you have any tourney info I'm missing feel free to pass it my way!

Alright so it was a long weekend in Canada this weekend and my goal was to get caught up in data entry but instead I decided to make a few new pages revolving around list composition simplified down to the ships contained with in it.

So without further ado here is the Squads By Ship page. As usual you can use the faction/date range filters at the bottom of the page and you can select one to drill down further and see the actual top ranking squads by ship composition. Hopefully it's another way to explore lists and get a feel for the "world meta". As usual, would love any feedback you have.

Cheers,

stmack

ps- there way not be a way to easily navigate to that page if you're looking at it soon after this posting, working on that now.
