List building with the Defender

By Rauhughes, in X-Wing

I ended up 2nd in a local tournament with this list:

-Rexler brath (37), push the limit (3)

-Colonel Vessery (35), Veteran instincts (1)

-Captain Yorr (24)

For a total of 100 points.

Yorr is here to allow the ptl actions and hard turns on the defenders. He moves first, so he can clean stress and then TL for Vessery's profit. Vessery himself has VI to shoot before Rexler, cleaning enemy shields to let Brath land some crits with TL+focus.

The various combinations I've seen have included the likes of:

OGP + Vader or Buzzsaw (perfect as a blocker for this type of list)

Vessery or Brath

Whisper

Soontir Fel

Vader

Bounty Hunter

Most combinations usually do pretty well for themselves.

As long as you mean that Turr Phenir is interchangable with Soontir Fel, then yes.

I came in 3rd at an event w/ OGP, Turr, and Col. V.

Tie Advanced will be great with Col V.

New Cannons will be great, too.

But of course. Turr Phennir is more than capable of joining that list. Stuff the Phantoms, you know the saying:

I need that poster...

As soon as I get back on the table, I'm planning on running Vessery w/ Outmanuever and Clusters and three Scimitars with proximity mines. I doubt it'd be competitive in a tournament, but I think it'll be fun.

Nice. It puts the Defenders on a longer leash than Jonus does and the shuttle is capable of putting out better damage than Jonus. It might be hard to consistently get TLs on the right targets with PS1 Defenders, but being able to double focus should make the Defenders harder to kill.

Yeah, was brainstorming with a friend tonight and the idea came up. There's no clear target priority in thelist, either - no "elite" pilot leaves your opponent wondering what to shoot first. All three ships are going to take some focusing down, and all three are capable of putting out some hurt.

You'd need to have a keen eye for eyeballing ranges/movement with this one though; the Defenders prefer to be at range 3 in this list.

I like it a lot, which list did you lose to and why?

I have had mixed success using Brath with Pred backed up by a Howrunner swarm so looking to mix it up. Originally I had my doubts about the Defender under performing in games due to either not being able to tight turn or just getting focussed down and losing me a ton of points, until this happened. . .

I had a one on one, Brath with Predator and HLC versus a full Fat Han Solo using Predator, C3PO, R2-D2, Falcon Title and Engine Upgrade. Yes, the points where against me.

I won.

The damage I was putting out was average to say the least. Either sending across two or three hits each time only to have the evade and 3PO combo block most of it. However, all that changed when the one and ONLY time I used his ability in the game . .

Han had boosted to get out of arc but failed, by a tiny margin. Brath saw his chance and sunk three hits in, his predator instincts sensing victory and enabling a fourth hit to find its mark. C3PO managed to predict one of the hits but three crits sang through the asteroid belt.

Damaged Sensor Array

Injured Pilot

The battle was won. With Han no longer having his re-roll, predator, focus (and therefore R2), no agility (and therefore no 3PO) and no predator. . . it was over.

Since then I have wanted to use Brath in more games, hoping that one day, when I really need the win, Brath will come out on top and show his worth.

I can't remember it well... I think it was Ethan a'baht, a named B-wing with HLC and FCS and 3x Z-95 bandits.

In that game, I deleted Ethan in 1 turn due to both defenders shooting at range 1, but then the dice turned against me; i think i wasnt able to roll a single evade in that game, which lost me Rexler too early. Also, I did one big mistake with Vessery, with wich I did a 2 bank instead of 1 bank, getting me in front of the B-wing and unable to shoot him instead of being flanking him. And, ofc, he shredded my 1 shield and 3 hull in that shot. Shame on me!
