Two weapon Fighting???

By tiprack, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Some of my part want to know if two weapon fighting is a thing any pc can do.

We are thinking it is with action 1 i use the axe in my right hand

and action 2 i use the sword in my left hand.

Or in action 1 i can swing both axe and sword giving me 1 blue and 2 red dice to swing.

thank you

When you perform an attack action you can select any equipped weapon, but just one. You need to announce which one you want to use prior to rolling the dices.

You can attack with one weapon and perform a second attack action with the other weapon if you want too (or with the same weapon as in the first attack).

Also, some skills rely on how you equip your gear, for instance some skills only trigger if you use a two-handed weapon, some only if you carry a shield (and a one-handed weapon) etc.

I´ve seen heroes with both ranged and melee weapons equipped (both one-handed obviously). It's a nice combination to ensure your hero can attack without relying too much on movement. Similarly, you may have one weapon for high damage (pierce, good damage surge), and one for regeneration (stamina mainly) or condition dealing, or things like Reach. These are just a few examples .

What Indalecio said is correct. There is one hero class- the skirmisher (from Shadow of Nerekhall)- who can use two weapons at the same time, but only in a limited capacity. His "Dual Strike" ability lets him use the surge abilities (not dice, and not any abilities that don't have a surge) on both weapons he has equipped, though he only gets to roll the dice of one of the weapons (but he does get to add a free surge to the attack.) He also has skills that let him attack with the other weapon immediately after attacking with the first weapon.

Equipping two weapons can sometimes seem like a good tactic, but you have to be careful to read your class skills carefully and to remember to check your equipment at the equip stage of your turn.

For example:

The knight loses a lot of advantage if he has no shield equipped as a few of his skills require one.

The wildlander requires a bow for most of his skills so equipping two weapons is problematic unless you find one of the crossbows.

The marshall requires two handed weapons, so using two one handed weapons nullifies some of his skills.

If you forget to switch weapons at the equip stage, you may be stuck in a subobtimal situation if the circumstances change.
