So a while back my fiance and I made a holochess board.

I recently decided that it might be fun to use it with X-Wing somehow.

I've been cooking up my own Ideas, but I want to hear what you guys think?

The only restrictions are you must include the board, and you must use X-Wing ships, other than that you can come up with whatever you want.

The idea I've been working on removes the X-Wing maneuvering, and is more of a "chess" type game, but you can keep the maneuvers and throw in crazy rules with the board.

Whatever you can think of!

Here's some photos for inspiration/size reference.

Ships in the outer ring gain +1 green die. Ships in the center have -1 green die?

Nice, maybe have all ships in the center have a 360 degree fire arc.

As long as you are moving in the Chess direction, could you get rid of the dice?

At least the green dice?

I don't know about removing the green dice. The imperials would get a lot weaker.

Ties with out green dice are flying dart boards.

Keep the green dice.

I said get rid of green dice.

Not get rid of Agility.

I was thinking X-Wing meets Gravwell: Escape from the 9th Dimension.

Straight maneuvers go straight, depending on which direction you're heading (either in line with a ring or across a diameter). Long straights can shoot you off the board, so don't use 5^ unless you're flying around a ring!
Banks could move diagonally or like a chess knight ("2 up, one over"). Not quite sure about these.

Turns can move X ahead, turn 90 degrees, then X more in the given direction.

Combat remains the same, perhaps? Not sure what "range" does.
