I know you have to commit to the action but do you have to commit to the direction? Say I wanted to barrel roll/decloak to the left, forward, but it puts me on an asteroid do I then have to barrel roll/de-cloak backwards to the left if it doesn't? Or can I choose another direction?
Barrel roll and de-cloak
No, if you can't fit in your nominated direction, you can choose another direction or another action.
Well in competitive rules, if you declare to roll left, then you have to provided you can. In your example you state that there is room if you slide the template and ship further back. In that case you would have to do that because you can legalitarian execute the chosen barrel role, even though you can'take fit exactly where you wanted.
If you are referring to ships that use bank templates then see answer above
Edited by StephenEsvenDecloaking, you would have to declare one of three directions, unless you are using Echo. Then you have to declare which one of six directions you are trying.
If it still doesn't legally fit then you can declare a different direction.
Decloaking or rolling off the board is a legal choice.

It's a dumb choice, but you're right, it's still a legal choice. ![]()
Thanks guys
Follow up to this, using Echo, I commit to the direction, not the bearing right? I can flip the 2 bank template any which way and slide it up and down my chosen side until I find a direction I like?

Both, so you've got six possible choices: right-forward, right-back, left-forward, left-back, forward-right, and forward-left.
So I do have to commit to the bearing, alright, thanks.
Correct. You've got more options so you've got to pick carefully.
