how many sleeves to buy?

By AgentJ, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

If I am getting the core game and all the ally and villan packs how many sleeve packs of yellow and green do I need to get in total? I do not see the number of cards of each size for each ally and villan pack so I don't know how many to get.

I am hoping someone here has inside information/knowledge so that a total can be known. Anyone have an idea?

2 FFG green sleeves managed to sleeve all the standard cards with some to spare

Okay thanks. Going to get 2 sets of green sleeves.

How about the yellow sleeves?

I'd say at least 4 yellow. Personally I bought 6

I sleeved all the larger cards, 4 green left over. I bought an extra pack to cover the hero boxes, in case they go the same way as the yellow sleeves, you can't get them in the UK atm, don't feel like paying extra to get them online, but when they are back in stock will be buying 7 packs to cover everything and my xwing stuff since I ran out.

I've found that however many you want, but one more pack if you can. All FFG sleeves seem to be out of stock often and it is nice to have a spare for when the expansions come along.

Based on the rules book, I see 204 of the small (yellow size) cards in the core box including Vader and Luke packs. That is for campaign and skirmish. Green sized is 96. the other hero packs show a card spread in the previews if you want to plan ahead for those. May have missed something in a quick adding of the list. I didn't count how many I bought or used because I always have spare packs of sleeves for various board games.

If you're buying the ally and villain packs, you definitely need one more green pack of sleeves. I'm not sure if you need another deck of the yellow ones though. I don't think so, although i bought an extra anyways.

Ally and Villain packs will come with Command Cards, so you need both green and yellow sleeves spare for these.

I'd recommend an initial purchase of 4 green and 6 yellow.

That should cover you for the core box set and first wave of expansions nicely.

When I calculated this after the ally/villain packs were announced, I think I concluded that you need 3 green and 7 yellow to cover the core + 7 expansion packs.

Just a question about Sleeving:

Are the Rebells allowed to know if there are any Mercenarys in the Open Group? Because they have a different back and so they would know from seeing.

Yes. See Deployment Cards on page 11 of the Rules Reference Guide.

"Since [Mercenary] Deployment cards have a different back from [imperial] Deployment cards, the Rebel players will know how many [Mercenary] and [imperial] cards are in the Imperial player's hand and in reserve."

Don't feel bad for missing it, though. It's in a very obscure spot. I knew I had read it before so I first checked under Open Group, then under Hidden Information. I finally found it under Deployment Cards.

So how do you sleeve them? Do you use different colours and tell them which is which?

I use clear sleeves for all my games. If I'm going to a tournament, I'll take my cards out of clear sleeves and put them in art sleeves, then switch tem back afterwards.

But now that I think about, the Imperial Assault cards are not standard card size. Can you even find opaque sleeves in this size? I've only seen clear.

The Yellow/Green labels mentioned are strictly size indicators (Green are for Deployment, Mission cards etc, Yellow are for the small Command cards etc), they are all transparent and that makes sense for most of the cards and makes sorting and quick setup easier. I do wish that the SW alternate art sleeves would have fit the deployment cards though, but the cards are US sized while the SW alt. art sleeves are much larger and won't fit at all so don't even bother making the same mistake I did
