[Completed epic ship scratchbuild] Storm Commando Escort Carrier

By MacrossVF1, in X-Wing

It is finally finished! The Storm Commando Escort Carrier is finished! Took me only about five weeks.

Now I apologise for the substandard pictures but at about 42-43 cm/17inch long it is a rather big beast. In fact it's so big that my normal photo equipment just wasn't enough. I had to improvise with an big assortment of lamps and a bedsheet just to be able to get some decent pictures. In any case, enjoy!

Very impressive.

How did you make this?

This project turned out great MAC!

:D

This came out AWESOME! Subtle, understated color scheme, too.

Flawless.

Great work and a pleasure following your build!

The ship looks awesome ; the gun turrets just do nott look right...a great job on the scratch build...

First of all, which turret type are you referring to, there are three types after all. And secondly what is that you do not think look right? I'm honestly curious.

I can't throw enough likes to this!

It is the minute detail of the larger turret guns...Too boxy shaped and needs more detail and I did nott see any under carriage small guns...

What I meant by my question on how you made it was.

Did you design it in CAD?

Do you have the plans / blueprints? for sale or otherwise for other people to build one?

In a way I agree with you but on the other hand I can only work with what I've got and the big turrets didn't have much in the way of details. At least not any details I could discern from the screenshots.

Oh I misunderstood. No this has very much been a hands on build, no computer wizardry. The commissioner did a great job researching the ship and he collected lots of images for me to use. Basically I tried to translate those pictures into a full model, not an easy task mind you. However, it does mean that there are no blueprints or plans. Sorry about that.

Like I said minute details bros...It is your ship ; so if you are content then so be it...

Actually it's not my ship at all as I was commissioned to build it. :) I think I will shed a tear or two when I send it to the commissioner. *Very sad face*

Anyway forgot to post some stats yesterday.

Length: 42-42cm / 17 inch

Width : 15cm / 6 inch

Height: 9cm / 3 inch

Built in an assumed scale of about 1/600 (slightly above 250m) though that is very much up for debate.

It has three pairs of turrets, all of which can be turned and aimed though I don't recommend playing overly much with them, there is always a risk that the paint will be damaged..

15 magnets has been built into the model to make the turrets both removable and turnable, and of course to make it possible to separate the model in two halves for easier transport and storage.

No blueprint makes it a unique piece of Art/craftsmanship that can't replicated into a 100% the same ship, might become a collectors item in the future :)

Simply fantastic.

Awesome. It turned out awesome. In fact, I'm going to call my kid Storm Commando Escort Carrier in the hope it also turns out awesome.

This is a beautiful model! :D

Please don't subject your kids to such torture (even though it would be awesome). Name them after me instead! :D

Nah, it might get picked on at school for having an odd name .. I will stick with Storm Commando Escort Carrier.

Looks awesome!

I do have one very minor complaint about it, though (not even remotely related to the quality you've already shown here, just personal taste): Not enough greebling. It looks too clean. I don't know if that's a style you chose, or if it's something the commissioner of the piece dictated, but compared to the CR-90 in your last picture, and the pictures I've seen of the new Raider, it just looks too flat to me.

Again, not a criticism of the work you've done, I couldn't even come close to that if I tried. Just something that stuck out to me.

Oh I didn't think about that. Everyone loves Star Wars after all, no one could possibly bully a kid with a Star Wars name!

I know what you mean but the ship doesn't have much in the way of visible 'greebling' (love that word!). It might be because of limitations with the consoles at the time as they might not had enough processing power to render the 'greebles'.
