Brath and Whisper? Would they do well in a tourney?

By darkevans, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So here's what I'm thinking with these two.

Brath with Lone Wolf, HLC, Cluster missiles, stealth

Whisper FCS, VI, Gunner, ACD

Could they survive? Whisper is hard to kill if you fly him right. My worry is with Brath. Could he be effective enough to make this a competitive tourney build? 97 points is going to win me initiative just about every time

the problem u will have is two ships with fairly low health, and its all in ur green dice which can be unforgiving at the best of times, you've already got brath with HLC and lone wolf, u just don't need missiles, id swap stealth for either hull or shield upgrade, gives you a guaranteed extra health.

id then swap gunner for rebel captive,

in all honesty is drop brath down to delta n try n get sum ties in there but hope u have fun with ur list

good luck.

I would definitely switch Clusters for an Ion Pulse Missile. That starts to heavily restrict where large ships (and small ships) can fly. It also saves you a point. The nice thing is that if you can get a big ship focused on Whisper, Brath can punish them for it. That build is also super resistant to attack 2 swarms/filler.

Lastnight I went against

Brath+Pred

Whisper+VI+ACD+gunner+FCS

darkcurse

I ran a fat han plus 3 talas.

We met in the final round of a casual tournament. He was 2-0-1 I was 3-0

Han and the talas took our darkcurse in the first pass.

He peppered down a tala

next round he stripped hans shields rolling nothing but hits. I got whisper to one hull. Next round han misses. he gets two crits through. Injured pilot and damaged sensor array. probably the two worst cards han can get. still in the fight though. Next round whisper falls as does han. then time ran out.

dice DEFINITELY werent with me. I mean it was **** frustrating. however, he has an effective list. Darkcurse goes well against the meta with predator and the other two ships were nicely tricked out

I also have been thinking of flying a phantom and defender together I may try a variation of this list.

The thinking behind clusters is I get to perform it twice. If I have a target lock and a focus, maybe I can strip shields with the first roll, deal damage with the second, and use the focus to turn them face up. All depends on the dice though.

A TL/focus HLC shot will almost always do more damage than a focused + unfocused Cluster shot. 3.75 average hits with 1 defense roll vs 2.25 and 1.5 average hits with 2 defense rolls.
