Deploying the AT-ST with figures around deployment point

By Armandhammer, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So I wanted to bring out the big guy during a side mission for a change (instead of waiting for a trigger) but there were plenty of figures around the single active deployment point at that time.

I couldn’t find a definitive answer in the RRG, so I just wanted to clear up this situation.

Deployment is the primary method by which figures are placed

on the map during a mission.

+

A player cannot choose to place a figure in a space where

it cannot end its movement , such as in a space containing

another figure, blocking terrain, or impassible terrain.

BUT:

A Massive figure can end its movement in spaces that contain

blocking terrain and/or other figures.

+

After a Massive figure ends its movement in spaces containing

at least one other figure, the Massive figure cannot move any

more during this activation.

How we played it out:

1) I placed the AT-ST (making the appropriate noises) in spaces containing a stormtrooper and a couple rebel heroes (it was impossible to avoid any figures, orientation didn't make a difference)

2) I pushed my figure first, then the Rebel players pushed their heroes

3) Since deployment wasn't during the AT-ST's activation, I was free to move again when I decided to activate it

Yay? Nay?

Sounds fair to me...

Rules aren't in front of me but I think I would have still placed it as close as possible without displacing any figures.

I'm with Karrde on this one. Deploying a figure does not constitute "ending its movement," so I would just stick to the rule that says that figures must be deployed as close to the deployment point as possible*.

*considering it impossible to deploy figures to the same space.
