Imperial Raider .. Why?

I already see a nice modified Action IV Transport as a perfect Scum huge as well

I thought it was pretty clear that FFG decided to make the Raider from scratch because the other candidate from the EU was the Lancer Frigate, which would have been at the max length that they would consider, and would also look like a sex toy.

But ... playing X-Wing IS sex ...

So OP is importing an argument from "another forum" and reacting to everyone who answers their question as though a huge bitter debate is raging, then baits for a more "incendiary" response to the "wedge issue".

2/10

There is a presence I haven't felt since...*Turns on heel, starts to walk down Death Star corridor. Doors at end of hall bust open as a giant beast busts through. Gimli the Dwarf comes riding in from a side corridor on R2-D2's back swinging his axe yelling "INTERNET TROOOLLL!"...Vader halts in utter blasphemous confusion as the fourth wall begins to crumble around him.

Remember, none of the ships you listed exist anymore. Now that LFL has created the Raider with FFG, it will be canon.

Besides, those other ships all look like crap.

maybe I will get to see the Yuzhan Vong after all?

Given Disney axed them, unlikely.

troll thread/

god lord . :D

I never knew being curious brings so much trouble .. i never intend to post anything on these forums to start huge arguments, but asking such simply questions does seem to?

http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/108686-imperial-huge-shipsim-calling-it/?hl=%20imperial%20%20huge%20%20ship

And keep in mind that there have been a dozen more threads saying the exact same thing over the past year. If people seem exasperated with your post, it's just because no one wants to have this same, 30 page, argument AGAIN.

I think as the first (possibly only) Imperial Epic ship, it needed to be recognizable. Technically its a new ship, but everybody knows what a star destroyer is and its the only one to import the design.

If they went with anything else, it would be like the core set coming with an ewing and tie defender; lots of people wouldn't recognize the ships.

I'm happy with the epic ships and now that they have a good selection of recognizable ones, I'd be ok with obscure ones coming to light.

It is hard to get into this without feeling like I am insulting someone's favorite ship. It really is the wedge.

There are a lot of Star Wars fans who have little contact with the EU. The CR-90 is something a lot of star wars fans want, weather the have read the comics, played the game or just seen the movies.

I don't want to offend the fans of the IPV or the Lancer, but I aint paying $100 for one of those, no matter how cool it makes the advanced. It has no resonance for fans like me who saw the movies, read a few books or comics and played a couple of the games. To sell to the more casual players, fans or collectors you need ships they instantly recognizes as Star Wars. At first glance, the Raider says Star Wars and Empire even to the fans who have only seen the movies. It does it while looking the right scale. It does it without looking like a wildly miss-sized star destroyer. From a marketing standpoint, none of the EU ships really do that.

For a $15 fighter, or even a $30-$40 freighter you can go a little deeper into the EU. there is less investment for Fantasy Flight, people are more likely to drop a few bucks on an something they aren't as familiar with if it is kinda cool. But for a $100 kit that most people will only buy one of anyway, you have to make it scream Star Wars.

That's my take anyway.

McBain, in case you aren't aware: Lots of people have complained about the Raider and EU ships in general. Lots of people are just fine with them.

There really are not that many good Imperial candidates at the 150m size, and it was always unlikely that FFG would go for anything larger than that. There have been lots of discussions about this since Epic scale was announced. The frankly phallic ship designs would have been problematic, so it's probably best that they invented a wedge at the scale they needed, and customized its role to suit the aims of this game.

Also, it seems like it's been a long time since there's been any "EU sucks, and EU ships shouldn't be in this game" sentiment. It's possible that those players have stopped collecting, or quit playing, or embraced (or just tolerate) the EU ships in this game.

Untrue though. The Immobiliser-418 interdictor, among others, is in the new novel Tarkin. And is therefore canon, in the new continuity.

A better reason is that it's FOUR TIMES AS FREAKING LONG as a CR-90, making the very idea of putting it in ludicrous.

There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of pages dedicated to which existing ship FFG could have used for Imperial huge. Maybe you're new here.

FFG was pretty clear with the rationalization behind why they created it.

I also wish people would stop forgetting how new ships get created in the first place—EU, Legends, or non-film canon. Victory-class Star Destroyer. Immobilizer. Vigil. Victory-II frigate. At each point you could have asked "Why didn't they just use a Star Destroyer?" and at each point you would sound equally idiotic. The wealth of ships from the EU weren't carved in stone at some distant date in the past. It has always been an organic process; when a new design is warranted, with LFL's blessing, a new design is introduced. So it is now, so it has always been.

Again for those of you claiming Disney has axed EU, I think that is not at all accurate. Disney necessarily removed its obligation to the EU, which is different from getting rid of it entirely. EU (now Legends) isn't canon. That's the only news. Guess what? It wasn't canon in the first place. Nothing's going to change except that the new movies aren't going to follow EU.

Case in point, Star Wars Commander. This is a new game by Disney that features the HWK-290 and Decimator, Clone Wars-era tech for the Rebels, and units from The Force Unleashed and the old Kenner toys from the 1980's. This is a new game.

EU isn't going anywhere, it's just:

• Called something different now

• Not canon

Again for those of you claiming Disney has axed EU, I think that is not at all accurate.

The new films are, what, 34 ABY? That overwrites the Vong.

No more Vong.

Also pretty sure they confirmed TFU's not canon any more.

To alter the tack of this thread slightly, I think it's tme to pose an entirely new slant on the question "Imperial Raider - Why?"

As in, why Raider ? The name?

The Empire does not conduct raids . Pirates conduct raids . Bounty hunters conduct raids . Terrorist rebel traitors conduct raids .

The Empire conducts peacekeeping operations .

To beat the Rebels, you have to start thinking like Rebels!

Indeed, if you find a pirate base in an asteroid field your going to raid it as soon as you can in order to keep local shipping safe.

BECAUSE.

I'm BATMAN.

The real question you should be asking is "Why not?"

Raider... why... does it have stupid giant interceptor wings?

So that FFG can sell their special miniatures tools, including the all new 'Miniatures Saw' tm
