Has there been any ruling on using debris fields in tournaments? The tournament rulebook says asteroids specifically but the base rule book says obstacles, does this mean debris fields are casual only?
Debris Fields in Tournaments
Until ffg alter the tournament rules debris fields are casual only or allowed by TO's.
Pull some debris fields out and see what the TO does
It'll be a hoot
I TO tournaments at a game store and have allowed the Debris fields for tournaments. However for the Store Championship I'm sticking to the rules and they are not allowed.
Debris clouds seem like they favor certain ships too much to be allowed in tournament play. Dash can park in the things with no ill effects. Tycho has a 1 in 8 chance of taking a crit but other than that debris fields do nothing to him. Ibitsam and Keyan can both benefit from getting stressed and have enough shields that the 1/8 chance for a stress isn't a big deal.
The biggest problem with Debris clouds is that in order to have a full set of 6 tokens you will need to have 2 Wave 5 ships and not everyone has a Wave 5 ships.
Unlike asteroid token set which everyone has if they have a core set, not everyone has a wave 5 ship.
I have made some suggestions into making obstacles pools using the satellite tokens from the core as substitutes until someone brings a set of debris clouds tokens and fills it up.So tournament participants would be required to bring one asteroid set and 3 satellite tokens but may bring up to 6 debris clouds to replace the satellite tokens. So you would have 2 obstacle pools.
- Asteroid pool: 1 Big asteroid and 5 asteroid tokens
- Debris Cloud, up to 6 Debris Cloud tokens, use as many debris cloud tokens as available then fill the pool with satellite tokens until there are at least 6 tokens (debris clouds and/or satellite tokens) in this pool. Treat all tokens as having Debris Cloud rules.
