Vassal ELO Ratings

Well there's been some talk about having some kind of "official" tracking for Vassal matches and well I've gone ahead and set up an ELO ranking board: http://www.challengeboards.net/boards/details/2167

From the description:

"This league is meant to be pretty casual. That said each player should keep their own set of
logs for being able to settle disputes. Please record from the start and have each player say in chat that the game is to be a considered a rated game.
Also for squad selection only release content will be available for official matches. When revealing lists, both have a link to your squad ready and then count down from 3 in chat and link at the same time. This will keep anyone from having an advantage. Also please have a load file for your squad ready as well.
Aside from that, have fun, fly casual and feel free to send me any questions you might have.
Thanks for participating :)"
So if you're active on Vassal and interested go ahead and sign up and good luck with your matches!

We've got a dozen people signed up but no first match yet, feel free to play a ranked game whenever you find someone else on Vassal from the ladder looking to play. As mentioned make sure you both confirm its a ranked game once the logs are started. This will help settle disputes.

To expand a bit on the purpose of the ladder, it's to provide the opportunity outside of tournaments and leagues to play games with a bit more meaning than your run of the mill Vassal games. The goal is for it to help foster a place where you can cut your chops and work on improving your flying against similar minded people. It isn't meant to be a big commitment to the player, you aren't obligated to accept all challenges or anything, though I'd hope you do give people outside of your normal play group a game when able to.

I know it's the internet but please use the same etiquette when dealing with other ladder members (or even non-members on Vassal) the same way you'd treat a fellow player face to face. If this happens there should be too many issues, If a dispute arises and it can't be solved by the rulebook or FAQ or a dice roll and you can't get a third person's opinion on Vassal at the time then send me your logs. I don't expect that to be a common occurrence but it's there if needed.

Aside from that, thanks to those who signed up, and to those who've been checking it out. If it's something that piques your interest feel free to sign up at anytime and worse case if you decide it's not for you then you can leave the ladder. Happy flying!

Week 1 update, we have 60 people signed up so far and the 3 people leading the board are Matt-Shadowlord, Morgan, and Silentubiquity who are all undefeated and have 6, 5 and 3 wins respectively.

Lots of time to join up and try and take one of those guys down for big points :)

I've been working on a small-scale rating system similar to the Elo system for our local meta. If you have the time, I'd love to talk with you about the formulas you are using to calculate the ratings.

I started doing an Elo rating system for my local group, using the formula found here:

The only difference is that I started everyone at 1500, and will change the constant from 32 to 64 after 10 matches.

I'm actually just using what's on the site, can't tweak the ratings formula or anything so I assume it's just standard ELO.

Week 2 update:

We have a new leader at the top of the board as former top gun Matt-Shadowlord suffered his first defeat, allowing Morgan, who has been able to maintain his own unbridled undefeated streak, to hit the 7-0 mark and take over the top.

Up to 68 players registered with 39 actually having participated in a game, not bad.

So I haven't been as active on the challenge board as I planned on being but I guess that's the beauty of it. Just was checking out the latest standings though and we have a new top dog.

Blairbunke is now 11-1 and has taken the lead with an ELO rating of 1624!

Just a note, although people have started to receive their wave 6 goodies, wave 6 will be only considered legal in ELO matches starting the 26th.

Vassal mod v5.2.3 is now out with all the S&V updates, make sure you update to it before running any Scum builds as some dials have changed been added.

No dials have changed. Only 1 has merely been added ;)
