[Scratchbuild] SCT Scout

By Wondergecko, in X-Wing

So, our group runs a sort of campaign with X-wing, and I've been looking for a good encounter ship for them that's not all guns and engines. After some searching, I found this duck-looking slab of functionality and ugly. Naturally, I love it, and I'm gonna build the darned thing. Updates to follow.

I started by modeling it as a 3D solid. I changed the nose a bit, keeping it angular, but losing a tiny bit of the duck look.WZHVLQu.jpg

I peeled the solid, printed it, and started hand sketching details before going back to CAD and adding them.

Love it :)

Some progress! Geez, clear acrylic is hard to photograph. Parts are laser cut, some are glued.

Try taking shots from your cutting mat .

This looks great!

Oh, I'd love to have both the knowledge and equipment to do this. It would make scratchbuilds much easier!

It really is a nice shortcut, but I can't do the curves... like on that Vigo. ;)

Some progress. Got a few detail plates on there and a cross brace for structural support.

That really shows the detail through the panels now.

Bottom plate secured, and a YT for scale.

Looks like it's coming along nicely.. and nice job on that 1300.. really like that paint scheme.

Impressive. How well does paint stick to clear acrylic?

Really well! I always prime first, though. Clear is just the only color that .03" plastic comes in.

This is looming nice! I made a paper craft one of these a while back.

Updates: fins are built, primed the bottom to check for flaws.Rk9141B.jpg
