Had my car broken into the other day and lost most of my Christmas presents and stuff. My 300 dollar beats, my operation ice storm infinity set, my almost fully painted imperial assault game, my unopened tantive that I won a few weeks ago, my gift cards, my car charger for my phone, my clothes (which I most likely wouldn't wear) from my grandma. Uggghhhh some people ******* suck.

That sucks. I also agree that people suck.
I also have to ask, how big is your car? That is a lot of stuff.
Normal size, I had most of it in one of those over sized gift bags.
not to rub salt in the wound but was that stuff visible?? I can see the beats attracting some local punk. also if you have "Full coverage" your insurance MAY reimburse you...
I feel your pain man.
We should wipe em out and restart with cats I said but no dad had to give humans a second chance.
I remember once a few months after my graduation from high school( it was 1998) and I came home from a rather dull day at work. I got to my front door and noticed that it was unlocked. SO I naturally grabbed a broken hockey stick, and if anyone has seen a broken hockey stick thats aluminum and has removable blade you will know they become spears once broken. I worked my way through my house noticing that nothing has been stolen, that was until I reached my bedroom, There I found my N64 and all its game gone, but the the one thing they took was so low it was stupid. The stole my dang HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA which was displayed in a rather nice leather bound cover on the top of my dresser. So yeah when you say people suck, I totally sympathize.

I think the beats were under a sweat shirt of mine but I guess the cord was visible. I checked with the insurance and that's a no go.

Yeah insurance companies are a PITA to deal with. Long time ago I came home from work only to discover my garage door was open and discovered that somebody had broken into my workshop which is attached to the garage. Somebody stole all my tools and my paint ball guns. When trying to get my homeowners insurance to reimburse me they kept on and on about my Job in the Airforce as an Aircraft mechanic (Crew Chief) and said i needed to prove that the tools I had were not used in my work place.. I laughed because ANYBODY that's been in the Air force knows that they don't allow "Personal" tools to be used on Airforce aircraft as they must have a very very tight inventory of ALL tools for obvious reasons!! Any way after getting my Commander to sign some form saying the tools in my garage were mine they then made me write down and inventory each and every tool and price of said tool. Fortunately my Aircraft Maintenance habits carried over to my tools and i had EVERYTHING all ready inventoried my tool box even had little foam cut outs for each tool so you could tell if something was missing or misplaced. anyway to make a long story short they finally reimbursed me but i had to jump through a bunch of hoops! I also put new dead bolts that i now lock on my screened porch that attaches to the garage. which is how they got in as that door didn't have a lock and all they had to do was bust through the screen on the porch.. It now has two locks and an alarm! AND I am now retired so i am not predictable schedule wise the way i was..lol
Crazy what people take! I was looking for my cars manual that I usually keep in the glove box and that's gone too?!?! Is there a black market for Saturn user manuels?I remember once a few months after my graduation from high school( it was 1998) and I came home from a rather dull day at work. Keep an eye on your bank accounts. If your VIN is printed in your manual it could be used to track your car's service record and open the door for identity theft.

um cant you just get ANY vin by looking at it in the window??
I just want to add my 2 cents in here.
If any one blames you for making anything visible in your car for a would be thief to see easily, It is not an invitation for a person to break in and steal it.
You should be able to leave stuff in your car and expect it to be there when you get back.
It is purely the criminal scums fault for stealing it.
I've seen plenty of valuables left in cars in car parks I've been in but I don't think "well its their fault for leaving it there, I should steal it"
Yes it does help to hide things but no you are not at all to blame for its theft.
I think society thinks some strange things some times.

Yes, but that was the only reason that came to mind for them stealing a manual.
What is this from?

What is this from?
Neil Gaiman, Sandman. Specifically A dream of a thousand cats.
The whole Sandman collection is an excellent graphic novel, a definite must read, as is most Gaiman stuff.
Sorry to hear about that Atomic. Items in your vehicle will often be covered by your renters or home owners insurance, not auto insurance. It may be worth calling on those as well. Hope that helps.
While these things happening are really crushing at the time. In a few weeks when its not so raw look at it in perspective.
We live in an age where we expect a *lot* out of life but the reality of life is that it is a hard and brutal struggle... we're a really priveliged 1 or 2 per cent of the planet with the money to waste on playing spaceship games.
The default setting of life is hunger, struggle and fighting to survive.. in the west we've largely elevated ourselves past that and we should be pretty thankful. I mean i'm disabled and cant walk properly on bad days but i have a note on my fridge that says 'get a grip gadge' to remind myself that while some days its agony to put my legs on the floor and bear my weight... some poor sod in afghanistan doesnt have any legs thanks to a landmine or IED.
Its all perspective.
One of my mottos is that 'life *is* unfair - just sometimes its unfair in your favour'
If you find £20 on the floor in the mall... just think someone got home to find they are £20 short from their wallet.
I know right now you probably feel rubbish over it all but if you think about your place in the grand scheme of things... well you know stuff could be a lot worse.
Tomorrow i've got to have a growth cut off my cheek and biopsied to check its not skin cancer (they are pretty sure its benign but want to test it to be sure) and its the 20th anniversary of my dad dying so tomorrow will feel 'unfair' to me, but i try and keep these things in perspective. I *might* have a cancerous growth on my cheek... thats a highly unlikely possibility but a *certainty* is my mate Nige is dying of stomach cancer. Thinking like that keeps me grounded and stops me whinging that my sciatica is too painful to sleep sometimes
But i know you need to vent about the break in and i sympathise. Some people are total toerags and have no idea or dont care that there 'quick win' with the break in caused loads of unhappiness, not just for you but for those you love you bought gifts for.
I really hope you were insured.
Just in case it helps because not many people know this but quite often your house insurance covers goods of up to £500 away from your home in case things like this happen or stuff is lost or broken on holiday.
You know once some total git put a brick through my car window to steal a soft toy. it was a small koala 'teddy bear' siting on the dash.
You knwo some probably drunk idiot caused a few hundred pounds worth of damage to get a toy that cost about £3.
And they probably didnt even think twice about it.
If you can look on the bright side of any of this, just be thankful you're not that sort of person.
I didnt mean to preach at you earlier, im just saying that things like this that 'suck' stick in your memory but dont forget all the random chance 'good' things that happen.
Anyway , sorry it happened to you dude.
Oh and back in the 80s somebody once smahed in the window of my parents car to steal a micronauts 'cosmic scooter' toy that was probably worth a few dollars.... they also bent up the windscreen wipers... stuff like that is pure malice... ican uncderstand the theft even if i dont agree with it but the senesless vandalism got me... it wasnt even like it was a flashy car it was a beat up old vauxhall chevette
Yeah definitely, I mean it totally sucks but I gotta be happy that I'm able to have the life where I can buy games and have these hobbies without taking things out of others cars. It's all material things and those in the end are replaceable.
Yeah life could be worse, you could be French.
Just recently we had a story down here in the Sunshine State where a guy threw his 5 year old kid off a bridge leading the the Skyway bridge.
Yeah life could be worse, you could be French.
Live in a beautiful country, with great food, great weather, great wine?
What's wrong with that?
That sucks, OP. I had my car broken into in my own driveway a couple years ago. Ripped my stereo out. They ended up catching the kid, but never recovered my stereo.
Back just before the holidays, my mom was at the house watching my boys (ages 2 and 4) while the wife and I were at work. She had been back in the oldest's bedroom playing trains with them and when she came out to get them some juice, there was a guy standing in my front hallway looking around. She told him to get out, he surprisingly complied. Cops were called, yadda, yadda, yadda.
This past Sunday, they ran an article in the paper about four burglars getting busted. She recognized one of them from the picture.
He's lucky as hell I wasn't home. Castle Doctrine and all that.
