New Player "Quick Start" List Guide

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Another very nice, easy to learn and fun to play squad with quite a few aces up it's sleeve is this:

http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Scum%20and%20Villainy&d=v3!s!117:27,-1,-1,114,-1,-1:-1:3:;125:-1,37,123,-1:3:-1:;113:-1,-1,-1:-1:-1:;115:-1,-1:-1:-1:

Enemies often ignore the Z's, making them nice blockers/finishers while both Kath and Palob are fairly tough. Along with the upgrades both are terrifying for the opponent, be it through sheer damage, the turret or focus denial. New players I introduce to the game always enjoy flying this build, because they find it fun with all the synergy.

Another idea would be to replace Kaa'to and the Z with another ship, but I think that they add a little diversity and even single-fighter blocking potential.

Only just found out about this. I would have loved to have this when I started and it's still extremely useful now. I don't know if it's been suggested before, but a 'Required expansions' line for every squadron would be extremely nice to have. That way you could see what's required to play one of your squads or find one you already own the stuff for.

I thought about it, but it was too much work for the first couple versions and would take up even more space in the PDF. You can always build the squadron in voidestate if you're interested, to see where the upgrade cards cards can be had from. If I can find the time and space to do it maybe I'll revisit it and add it in a future update, but don't hold your breath. :)

Very interesting and useful as a new player. Thanks for posting!

First off, I want to say that this is very well put together and researched. It is a work of art in and of itself and you should be proud.

I didn't see if you had house ruled that Biggs should have an EPT, but in the Rebel Three Amigos list (wave 1-2 style) he cannot take Determination. Adding R2-D6 will allow it. By dropping the shield upgrade down to hull upgrade you will free up points to make it tournament legal.

I also noticed that there were only a few lists that featured the X-wing and I figured I could share some of mine. These were thoroughly flown throughout early Wave 4 up til Mid Wave 5 with a high success rate, despite the Phantom/Fat Han meta.

Much of the Squad Base remains the same but it evolved as I worked to find a crack in the meta that allowed me to win tournaments quite often. Both perform very strongly vs a lot of things, the weaknesses tend to be vs: Decimators + 3 or more TIEs, BBBBZ, Scum Dual Firesprays, and BTL-A4 Y-wings+ Ion squads. I left out 1.0 through 3.0 because Those evolutions were inferior.

#Stressbot 4.0 (100).

Luke Skywalker+R3-A2+Vet Instincts (31)

Wedge Antilles+Predator (32)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

#Stressbot 5.0 (100)

Wes Janson+R3-A2+Vet Instincts (32)

Luke Skywalker+R5-P9+Vet Instincts (32)

Wedge Antilles+R2-D2+Predator (36)

These were my two favorite lists to fly and I feel that in the event of an X-wing buff I may revisit the concept, but for now the project and play testing is shelved.

Good catch, I don't know how that one got through! I replaced Determination with R4-D6 for v1.03 going forward. PDF is not yet updated.

I could build the list to see, but I'm not typically the player this guide is aimed at. A new player would probably have a limited collection and is more likely to go over the list for something he can play with what he has over something he wants to play that requires him to buy more stuff. Also, as a player that is not familiar yet with what is what I can easily see them give up after having built the second squad in a builder seeing they do not have the required ships/cards. Having a list of required material or a link to the build would help tremendously in that regard.

I realize it's a lot of work though, and the community is grateful already for what you've provided. I'm merely providing feedback, what you do with it is entirely up to you.

Good to hear.

Amazing resource.Great job MJ. Should defintely be pinned.

What do you think of this list?

Solid Gold Dash:

Dash: PTL, Mangler Cannon, Lando and Outrider

Gold Squadron Pilot: BTL-A4 R2 Astromech and Ion Turret

Gold Squadron Pilot: BTL-A4 R2 Astromech and Ion Turret

I was hard pressed the first time I used the list against Vader and a Tie swarm. Dash got cornered and shot to apart. The second time I flanked and kited the swam with Dash allowing me to pick off and control the Ties with the Y-wing's p primary weapons and ion cannons.

Some more scum lists would be nice.

Seems like Boba + Kath has done well in some regional championships.

What about getting in a prince xzior list?
Or something fun with Emon Ezzamen and his slingshots? :)

I plan on reviewing this again after the Regionals season and after wave 7 has been fully spoiled. Suggestions always welcome - of course I am tracking the Regional results in detail so there are a lot of good ideas there.

Great work! Thanks from all of us new guys who would be lost without a little guidance from veterans like yourself. Well done.

Really looking forward to hearing your take on the Wave 7 meta and how some of the new stuff balances out. Twin Laser Turrets (BTLA4, anyone?) seem like they are going to be seeing a lot of love.

Great list, Any change we can compile a squad list for Epic too? That would be AWESOME!!!!! :)

New player here. What is the "TIE Advanced fix"? Great list btw. =)

It's the title for the Advanced that comes with the Raider. Takes it from unplayable to whipass, IMO.

Oh I see. The TIE/x1 card. Yeah that would help a bit. Thanks. ;)

This is incredible, thanks for putting all this work in!

For real. This will be very helpful.

Can't wait for the new lists with the integrated droid.

Is this linked in the sticky on the main X-Wing board?

I believe it is. It should by stickied in this sub-forum but that might take an act of congress.

It's in MajorJuggler's index of useful threads, which is basically a user-moderated sticky-page...

Thanks for taking the time and compiling this guide!

Really looking forward to more scum lists

Fantastic resource - thank you!!!

Note: In Rebel Warthogs, the 3 Gold Squadron pilots with seismic charges require "Bomb Loadout". I'm sure this is obvious to experienced players, but I found it confusing as a newbie.

Thanks again!

I'm looking for a good Scum Build using Bossk as the main ship? What are some ideas I can look into towards the creation of such a squadron? I would appreciate alot if abbreviations of cards are kept to a minimum so I know what im looking for. :)
