Hey, does anyone know if R2 and C3PO are coming soon to an expansion. I thought droids were important in Star Wars? R2 units open and close doors, etc...
Droids
SW:IA is only the VERY FIRST core expansion! To include everything that everyone would like to see in the core game would:
- Take a lot more time to playtest / develop
- Make the game cost a *whole* lot more up front
- Leave potential for the game to stagnate as the 'wow' factor gets lost when there isn't anything to look forward to.
R2-D2 and C3PO are almost guaranteed to make it into the game, my guess is there may even be several versions from different timelines. With a franchise that is rich in iconic characters, it wouldn't make much sense to include some (Han, Chewie, Vader, Luke, etc) but not others.
Really? R2 and C3PO?
I guess I could see R2...to a degree. He could be given some abilities fairly easily, and even have some limited combat ability. But C3PO would serve vitually no purpose in this game. Is he going to translate the enemy to death or something? He really couldn't even act as a motivational/support character because everyone is always annoyed by him.
While those two are pretty iconic characters to the IP, they really serve little to no role in the game. What little you could do with them could easily be replaced with some other already existing character.
I could see them making R2 and C-3P0 a single figure, with both droids on a single base. I think making R2 able to make Tech skill checks could aid missions

That's kind of along the idea I was thinking.
Besides, the could make C3PO a character without a weapon, that just uses attributes and activations with 2 defense dice to reflect the amount of times you see him in the movies amidst havoc and blaster fire and yet he still manages to survive... Except for that whole Bespin thing...
More importantly, they could provide for more missions, etc.

In the WotC SW Mini's game, there were multiple versions of C-3PO, and they all had one thing in common-- They served as basically a distraction/nuisance to the enemy. Some could Draw Fire and prevent your more important units from being targeted, others had Disruptive which suppressed enemy commander effects.
I could see something similar being done in this game.
I'd like to see the droids give a command card buff. For example, if R2 or C3PO are adjacent to a terminal you control, draw one extra command card that round.
If R2 and 3PO were separate figures, I can see them doing things like this:
R2: Lock Doors, Interacting with terminals and other stuff doesn't take an action, melee attack: on hit: Stun.
3PO: Friendly figures within X spaces gain a free Evade token. (He's annoying the enemies and a bit distracting, therefore making their surges not work.)

I absolutely dread a figure that can lock doors, and hope they don't change how doors currently work.
One of the reasons I like Skirmish mode in this game so much more than the WotC Star Wars Minis game is because in this, once a door is open, it's gone. You don't have to have someone hold the door open, you don't have to worry about some annoying droid locking the door, you don't have to worry bringing a piece with a satchel charge just to keep it open, etc.
I'd see C3-PO more as a Rebel version of the Imperail officer
Give someone a move or an attack for an action
Cower to gain A defence reroll
Make most of his skills Bosster skills, giving his allies rerolls, focus or bonus to attribute tests.
I don't think they fit as figures or allies in a combat situation but you could make them as pets i.e the hawk, ghost dog ect. from decent

I disagree, I think R2 definitely fits in the game, seeing as how useful he was in the movies, basically saving every major character at one point or another. Obviously, his fighting capabilities would likely be limited, but I could see a 2 point unit that could move pretty quickly, interact with stuff for free, open doors from afar, and/or make smoke clouds to block LOS. I would likely use such a character.
I could see 3PO as well. Again, he'd obviously be more of a support unit, but if he were only a couple of points and distracted your opponent, made you able to re-roll or focus your guys (by telling them the odds), or otherwise doing something interesting with Ewoks (which are almost certain to make an appearance). You just have to think outside the box more on how he would help in a firefight.
I could also see the two of them working as a team, since R2 seems to do a lot of stuff, but only when 3PO is around to tell him what to do/how to do it. Essentially 3PO would't do much, but the pair would be cheap to play and R2 could do a lot of useful things, but had to stay nearby 3PO.
You can't think of stuff like this like "well he can't fight so prolly not going to happen". Argus is not much of a fighter but his abilities for his cost are well worth it.
R2 and C-3PO could probably fit well enough as allies. They'd be a bit unconventional compared to what's out so far, but it's not impossible.
But I wouldn't expect FFG to make any astromech or (normal) protocol droid heroes. They're bit on the slow side in terms of movement - not something you'd want a majority of campaign missions. And there's the issue of weapons. As is, players are pretty free to swap weapons and items around before missions. But I can't see astromechs or standard protocol droids wielding blaster rifles or vibro-axes. That doesn't mean they won't make other droids, though. There's plenty of different droid models out in the Star Wars galaxy that could keep up with the same capabilities of the current heroes.

First, I agree with Hida77 that R2-D2 and C-3PO will probably occur in this game. I mean they have to -- they're in all 6 movies. I don't know if they'll be separate or combined into one figure. Ether way, I'm sure FFG will get creative with them. Or here's an idea. You know how some packs come with three figures, what about pack with one C-3PO, one R2-D2, and one figure of the two of them together. The Ally Pack could contain a deployment card for each one. Perhaps the combined one would have a title like
- C-3PO and
- R2-D2
droid duo
As for a droid as a familiar, I think it's a fantastic idea. It's come up a couple times on these boards that it would be cool to see a pilot hero in a future expansion that uses a droid as a sort of "familiar" (to use Decent's terminology). Pilots are super iconic in SW, but how do you make a pilot feel like a pilot in a character-centric miniatures game? Since astromechs are primarily used for astrogation aboard starships, it seems like a great way to say, "Hey, this is a pilot," without bringing crazy vehicles to the field. After all, Luke was primarily a pilot at first and you see him bring R2 with him almost everywhere.
Can droids be stunned ? Bleed ? Any restrictions to the conditions available today ?
If you have an ion weapon (UTINNI!), then sure droids can be stunned.
In all seriousness, yes droids can be stunned or bleeding or focused. There is no rule otherwise, no special weapons needed.
Edited by paladin2019We have droids already in this game - IG-88 and the Probe Droids! Are they immune to bleed? Why would Hero droids be any harder to include?
I'm looking forward to more droids like the RA-7 Imperial Protocol Droid.
