Does anyone here read comic books? Potential inspiration.

By rowdyoctopus, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

First a bit of background:

Way back when, Marvel comics used to make Star Wars comics. Then the license went to Dark Horse comics, who made them for several years (I think around 20+, but I'm no expert).

Well within the last 5 years, Disney has acquired both Marvel and Lucasfilm. It only makes sense they would want their in-house comic publisher to make their Star Wars comics. Dark Horse's contract expired at the end of 2014. Marvel starts putting out their first Star Wars series NEXT WEEK.

STAR WARS #1 hits store shelves on January 14. It follows the OT cast on adventures between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Exactly the time period this game is written for.

There will also be a Darth Vader comic starting in February, and a Princess Leia 5 issue mini series starting in March.

I have no idea if these are considered canon. But I'm looking forward to it. Marvel is putting some of their best talent on the books.

Just looked it up on starwars.com. These comics will be canon.

My whole campaign is based in the setting of Star Wars Legacy Vol I comics. My players knew something was different when they found Princess Marasiah Fel dead on Socorro.

Yeah, there are gobs of adventures already set between Episodes IV and V, but those were all pre-Disney and are, hence, non-canon now. I guess these new Marvel stories will replace them. It's exciting to read the new stuff, but it's also a shame. The Williamson/Goodwin newspaper strips (collected by Dark Horse as Classic Star Wars) are some of the best Star Wars stories we've ever gotten.

My problEM With The ComicsAre That, For The Most part They Are About The WaR With The Empire. I'm Running Eote, Not Aor, Lol. I Recommend Using The Comics For Setting, And IdeaS From Firefly

Although it was brought to an abrupt and rushed end, Miishelle, you should look into Star Wars: Legacy Volume II. It follows Ania Solo. Most of the war stuff is plot that goes on around her. She's just trying to work through the trouble that all that brings upon her.

I Read Them. I Liked Them. ButThose Are The Exception,Not The Rule.

Well I'm talking about brand new comics by a brand new company telling brand new stories. We don't know what they are about yet (granted there are stormtroopers in the preview). But they take place in the exact time period this game was written for.

Not That I Enjoyed Them, IEven Like The Old Marvel Comics But That There Were Several Comics That Didn't Involve War. That SaidThe Majority Of Them Did. Again, Better Ideas For AOR. Also, I Am Worried About Placing A Campaign 200 Years Past The Core Rpg Books.

Phooey! They may be "non canon" but Disney will NEVER take away my Seven Samurai/Godzilla Mashup!

Well, The First One Only Came Out A FeW Days Ago. I Think Its A Bit Too Early To Speculate. Lets Wait A Few Months Before Blindly Guessing.

Star Wars #1 came out and it is fantastic! I can spoil it if anyone is interested.

It would definitely make for a great RPG adventure. Rebels infiltrating an Imperial Weapons Plant to blow it up? Sign me up!
