Board Size

By Commander Kahlain, in Star Wars: Armada

What is our source for 3' X 6' being the standard board size, please?

I recall 3' X 6' being standard Tournament size... I ask because it seems like a lot of space for the number of ships we will have in a 300 point game.

Also, board size impacts (theoretical) max size of minis. I/e, an 18" or 24" Star Destroyer variant isn't going to work so well on a 3' X 3' board. They might work on a 3'X6' or larger board.

3x6 was quoted by FFG in one of the Gencon videos as being tournament size yes.

Like X-Wing is tournament size 3x3, theoretically you could try play it on a smaller space, but it probably wouldnt work out very well - I imagine Armada will be similar, in that the ships once you start moving them around each turn will end up taking quite a bit of space. We might also see variations like in Warhammer 40K where missions can be played lengthwise up the board or diagonally across it.

Edit: Star Destroyers remind me of a great quote from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

"Looks like a fish, Moves like a fish, steers like a cow" :D

My gaming group will start playing 150pt games on a 3x3 for starters than move to competition standard when our collections flesh out.

3x6 is tournament standard.

Thanks, folks, that makes sense
