best imp & reb list to improve our game with?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

Can anyone suggest a rebel and Imp learning builds?

My friend and I want to improve our over all game play by focusing on 2 lists each that we will play against each other and only tweak here and there but focus on to learn to be better players.

For my rebel I was planning to build around dash to lear to fly a big ship with less fustration from hitting obstacles, my Imp build could be anything.

I have a Starter List Guide that I will be posting in the Squad Lists section shortly, hopefully later tonight.

5 TIE PHANTOM

really the best learning. you have to use the tie swarm differently in different matchups. a 5 clump vs han and decimator (usually, with good predicting on boosts), and spread and blocking vs mirror.

It has a lot of ships and requires good decision making. Phantom is hard anyways.

Gives you practice with formation, large number of ships, break-up formation for phantom mirror, phantom piloting, arc dodging, blocking.

TIE Fighters are such a useful tool in Imperial list building I'd say to focus on the Ace + MiniSwarm lists.

Whisper + Miniswam

Firespray + Miniswarm

Soontir + Miniswarm

Named Defender + Miniswarm

Mess around with different TIE fight compositions, depending on your play style there will likely be one that you prefer. You'll usually have 3-5 of them depending on the rest of your list.

As Imperial, getting some experience flying shuttles opens up some options when list building.

As for an actual list you can put on the table, this gives an Imperial player practice with both Phantoms and TIEs and lets the person you are practicing against against Phantoms. Which Gunner out for Rebel Captive to get a 2 point initiative bid if you prefer.

The last two worlds champion lists

NOTHING with more than one firing arc. Yea it might make things easier, but you're not leaning how to fly as well when you get can get shots besides your primary firing arc.

That pretty much just means most small ships and shuttles, but that's a good place to start. Shuttles are good for learning how big ships move, even if their dials are more limited. Firesprays I guess wouldn't be too bad for more movement options, and only one extra firing arc as oppossed to 360.

Also keep upgrades to a minimum, else you might forget what you have to keep asking questions about how they work.

Thanks for the help so far.
