Two player campaign

By Redhand, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Is there any reason you shouldn't play a campaign with one Rebel player controlling four heroes?

I see no reason not to. If I were playing a two-player campaign, this is how I would do it. With fewer heroes you get those neat little awards and extra activations, but I feel like you lose versatility because your team isn't as diverse.

The rules specifically include it, no reason you couldn't. When playing with a single rebel player, the rebel player can choose anywhere from 2 to four heroes and they get the heroic (3 heroes) or legendary (2 heroes) to supplement the lack of bodies accordingly.

With four heroes, you're actually getting a little bit more total HP to go through and more damage spread throughout, but having multiple activations on a loaded out hero - vs spreading gear between four heroes - can be very beneficial also.

Hadn't thought about that. Good point.

Thanks all. I kind of figured but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

They do? I thought the rule book dictated two heroes for the Rebel player in a two player campaign. I'm away from my rulebook ATM and I can't remember where I thought I read that.

The box on page 10 of the learn to play guide says that if you only have two players, the Rebel player should control 2 heroes. If the situation comes up, I will be ignoring that.

I would recommend it. Or at least have the one Rebel player control 3 beefed up (according to the rules) players rather than two. There are many missions where the more warm bodies for the Rebels the better.

That's what I mean. I think I'll always have 4 heroes on the board.

That's how played it. My son took control of the Empire while I hade four Heroes. Works like a charm!

Yeah, in the L2P it suggests you play with less than four heroes... Seeing as how you're using the L2P because you're learning to play, that makes sense. :)

We played both ways (2 heroes legendary, and 4 heroes). In the mission (Aftermath), it made very little difference. I was still able to wound them all and/or block them from activating/destroying terminals by bunching up...

One thing to consider is that if you're controlling 4 heroes, if the reward is 100cr for each, you'll have 400 instead of 200cr. Meaning you can now buy a single 400cr item, where before you'd have been limited to 200cr. Seems like an imbalance of some kind, at least for now slightly in favor of playing 4 heroes in 2-player mode...
