Denver CO, Casual Play @ the Wizards Chest

By jjohnson111, in X-Wing Organized Play

Awesome, sounds good! We will be there! I try to be there a little earlier than 6:30 just to get tables set up and such, so if you spot me, say hey!

We are still on for tonight, 6:30 @ The Wizard's Chest for X-Wing, even with the incoming weather. If you can make it safely, come out and roll some die with us.

Slightly off-topic:

Scum will not be there for purchase tonight, but should be getting into the store in the near future. Next Wednesday I foresee a great disturbance on the tables...

X-Wing has been cancelled at the Wizards Chest, as the store is looking towards getting their employees home safe and sound this evening. Sorry for the 180, we were good to go after my verification a few hours ago, and just got word to cancel the event.

See everyone next week!

Jon

Wizard's Chest faithful! Just to let you know, the last two weeks of the month there will be an Escalation tournament held for Spring 2015 prizes. Week 1 (4/22) will be your Wave 1 and Wave 2 squadrons. Week 2 (4/29) will be when your Wave 3 and Wave 4 groups will hit the tables. Rules will follow standard Escalation Tournament rules by FFG.

You must have a complete squad list (encompassing Wave 1, 2, 3, and 4 and breakdowns for each one!) ready on 4/22 so that no list spying can occur for the final week.

Squads point values will be as follows:

Wave 1: 60 points (you MUST have at least 2 ships. You may also have fewer than 60 points)

Wave 2: 90 points (keeping the original 60 in the same configuration from Wave 1, but you may ADD upgrades to your original 60)

Wave 3: 120 points (keeping the same 90 point squad from Wave 2, but you may ADD upgrades to your original 90)

Wave 4:150 points (keeping the same 120 point squad from Wave 3, but you may ADD upgrades to your original 120)

Remember, for Escalation rules, you cannot have more than 8 of the same ships in your squad at any time. You cannot have more than 4 of the same big ships in your squad at any time.

Escalation Rules are here: https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/c7/6f/c76f220b-5efd-4afc-912b-e67dfcda034e/x-wing_escalationrules_v301.pdf

New FAQ IS LEGAL and will be used for any rulings needed: https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/9d/df/9ddf0774-9bbc-4eab-89bf-01a9c4ef7eca/x-wing-faq.pdf

A few notes to add:

  • We are using the new rulings for asteroids/debris. Please bring 3 unique choices of either type.

If you want to pre-fill out your squad lists, here is the official FFG list, but you are welcome to use a squad builder to create your lists and print them off too.

Just be sure your lists are broken down by (and please make it easy to figure out):

What will be in Wave 1

What will be in Wave 2

What will be in Wave 3

What will be in Wave 4

I will be there Wednesday night to make sure people are good on rules, and can answer any questions there.

Hope to see you there!

Ooooooh fun! I'll be there pending some sort of disaster. Now to decide if I want to try to shoehorn a Han into a two ship 60 pt build lol

Han + Tala at round 1. Add 2nd Tala and upgrades to Han round 2!

Exactly what I had come up with, I just worry that a 5 TIE swarm will rear its head that first round...And that's why I like escalation :)

I will make sure to bring the swarm!! Just kidding.

On a related note, I have been asked by multiple players about being able to play 1 week vs the next. I'd like to just let everyone know here as I posted in FB today that I'd like to appeal to everyone and allow for people to play when they can, since it is kind of a weird format for escalation since we are running it over the course of two weeks (this Wed and next Wed). Being fair, the players who join in for only week 2 action will only be eligible for participation prizes, I just have to figure out how best to add players. Likewise, if you only play in week 1, you will only be eligible for participation prizes.

I am not expecting this to be a problem for the majority of players, but I know of a few who have expressed interest but can only play in 1 or the other. Don't want to turn away those who want to play, but I also want to keep it fair to those who do compete both weeks. Plus, we have some newer players who are using this as a springboard to see how (to an extent) the structure they can anticipate seeing during regional season (we have a lot of newer players who have not played in a tournament at this point).

Thanks everyone!

Thanks jjon! I'm sure you'll do right by everyone; don't sweat it. I'm totally stoked to get some escalation for a change! And please do bring the swarm :) I may have a surprise or two in store ;)

As a side note, I was at Total Escape today pre-registering for regionals, and found out that they already have 30 folks who have signed up and paid entry. So if you are planning on going now may be a good time to get registered. John also told me that if we go over 60 participants it will move to the Westin. As it stands now it'll be at TEG and start at 9am. Just to keep everyone up to date with the latest.

Please make sure you review the new decloaking rules for the Phantom, and make sure you are ready for the chang es! I will have a copy of the FAQ there on my iPad if we have any questions arise.

Round Lengths: (this is why it is critical we start on time, due to the length of round 4)
Round 3: 90 minutes
Round 4: 120 minutes

I am omitting details for squad building as I have already validated everyone's squads from last night. For those of you joining us for just week 2, bring 120 and 150 point squads, where your 150 contains the entire 120 points used previously. If you want to add upgrades to your original 120, that is just fine.
The only stipulations are:
no more than 8 of the same small-based ship
no more than 4 of the same large-based ship

OK: Here are a few more details for those of you who did NOT play last night, and want to come by on the 29th:

IF you did not play in week 1, YOU ARE STILL WELCOME TO COME!! Please come and play x-wing and roll dice!! Depending on how many we have, what I will likely do is set up a 2nd tournament bracket for those who show up only for week 2. You will play waves/squads 3 and 4, just like everyone else. I am not sure how integrating you guys will work, I am going to work on that over the weekend. If there is an even amount of you, I will probably just run a 2nd bracket.

For those only playing in week 2, you will only earn participation prizes (alt-art PtL), you cannot win the overall spring tournament prizes (tycho alt art, range ruler, dice bags, etc). It is likely we will run another event in the summer, so do not despair for your chance at spring prizes. I may also be able to track down some additional prizes for you too, but those are to be determined, and also may not happen.

For those of you who played last night:

I am going to go through scoring and make sure everyone's MoV's, SoS, etc are correct and make sure that everyone's pairings are correct and up to date. I have the paper copies, so everything will be 100% accurate when we start next Wednesday night.
It is my intention to get pairings set up before people arrive, so when you come in, find your score sheet at your table (which I will set up, as long as life doesn't get in my way), and you will just need to get set up so that we can get dice rolling ASAP (thank you!) Make sure you have your 3 unique asteroid/debris tokens, if you want to switch them up that is fine with me.

I have all of your score sheets, all of your squadrons, so if you have questions as to what you are flying for your wave 3/4 squads I'm sure you'll find me next week.

Have a great weekend, see you next week!

(let me know if you have any questions)

Disclaimer: If there is something I missed, these details are subject to change, and an announcement will be made in a timely manner. The basic items listed above here should not need to be altered...pray I don't alter them further.

A couple of reminders with the day coming up:

Pilots need to be assembled and strapped in by 6:45 so that we can get going.

I have finished manually adding up everyone's MoV's and Victory Points, and the program is doing it right. Yay technology!

As mentioned, I will arrive early on Wednesday night to get things set up and ready to go. When you arrive, please find your table (your score sheets will be there), but here are pairings for round 3:

Table 1
Jon v Keaton

Table 2
Chris P v Justin

Table 3
Jason v Sam

Table 4
Frankie v Ian

Looking forward to the next round of fights! Things should certainly be interesting at the 120 and 150 point levels!

Again, if you did not play last Wednesday on the 22nd, please come, and depending on turn out I will figure out how to work you guys in. You will be eligible for alternate art Push the Limit cards!
