2nd Edition: New Title

By thatwalshguy, in Zombie Apocalypse

I absolutely love you guys at FFG, you seriously have made some of the coolest games ever.

But this game literally has TWO of the most generic titles on Earth, and it makes it such a pain in the A$$ to search.

So, when second edition rolls around, can you maybe give it something a little more unique?

Add a digit at the end, even.

Just something to distinguish it from the entire genres they're named after!!

Tried to find a PDF online? ;)

Oh I'm sure that's not it at all. Probably trying to find reviews or something similar. Or maybe somewhere else to buy it other than the regular venues. Right?

In hindsight i have to agree with opsnafu. There is a TON of zombie related stuff out there!

Had similar problem a while ago: looking for Pathfinder (the RPG) what do i get? Pathfinder (the car) commercial! Gaaaah!

Nah, not even a PDF. Try searching that on Amazon!

Then, I went to my local hobby shop, and the guy gave me the total stink eye when I told him the name haha.

Geez you'd think these guys would just be able to order from FFG, It's not like FFG has 500 zombie themed games.

Or maybe your hobby store ain't into RPG"s :)

Me: so i'd like to order this really cool game about zombies-wait come back! It's an RPG and you can play as yourself and your hometown get's ovverun with zombies and they eat your family and then the survivors form violent gangs and-

Shopkeep. Utterly disgusting. You make me sick!

Me: actually i was thinking about making you this boss monster, like a really big fat zombie with mutations and-

Shopkeep: Get. Out. Of. My. Store.

Me: don't you wan't my money?

Shopkeep: Sigh- Fine we can order it for you.

Me: That reminds me, has my copy of Hunter the vigil: Slashers come in yet?

Shopkeep: OUT!

The results I got from a google search using - the end of the world zombie apocalypse - gave me nine results on the first page. Out of those nine, five were about this game including the first three. I'm not sure what the problem is with finding this game.

Really? Because I just did one, and the first three results were, then a cracked article, then a Youtube video, and from there they continued to be unrelated.

So, as much as I appreciate your perception of that being an easy search, a unique moniker would certainly improve results.

From a brand perspective, it makes a huge difference. It makes it far easier to connect audiences to products, and distinguishes from competitors. I can't just search "zombie apocalypse" on amazon, I have to type the whole title.

That's much different, then say, Edge of the Empire, where it gets far more narrowed results.

It's not the only gripe I have with a name, though. Have you ever tried searching just "munchkin" on Amazon? There's also so many toddlers toys and accessories! Adding Steve Jackson to the search makes it much easier, though ;)

I type in this phrase exactly "the end of the world RPG" and the first link I get is to FFG's product page for the game. I used Bing Search Engine. I didn't have any problems.

adding RPG or game is cleary what makes the difference in your search results.

try typing "zombie apocalypse" or "end of the world" without it and you wont see FFG on the top 5 results.

Same for "munchkin" (altough google gave me the boardgamegeek link in the top 5) Type "Munckin game " and bingo! first hit takes you to worldofmunchkin.

So once again: if you want to find something: add what it is after the title.

While you are correct that adding "RPG" or "game" into the search will help a lot (no matter which game you're looking for), the search I reference above did not have that and I got the game in the first three results.

Must be Bing. I used Google, maybe i should switch search engines...

Indeed. I only ever use Bing these days. For the most part, it is superior to Google. Which is weird.

Google's getting waaaay to into the whole "removing links" thing.

**** megacorporations always picking on the small pirates :D

Nope, I used Google.
