Magnets: How They Work (for X-Wing Miniatures)

About how far away is ok? 2ft?

With the types used for modding minis that should work. Don't stick them to the PC case though.

Arise!

So I'm starting to magnetize. First one is an excess X-Wing who's peg fell out, so perfect. This is a new flappy-sfoil version, and the magnet I used (KJ R421) has to move well forward of the normal peg hole in order to allow for S-Foil flappiness.

I have also learned that I'm much better at gluing my fingers to my ball.... bearings than I am at gluing the bearings to the shaft.

(this post brought to you by superglued fingertips)

So my second round of attempts has gone much better. I found that Gorilla Glue Gel is much more forgiving for attaching ball bearings to the posts. I just grind down the top of the peg to flat, put the peg into a base, dollop on some gel glue on the top, carefully put the ball bearing in place and hold it for a few seconds, and then it stays, without the glue running down the side or going up onto my fingers.

Ship wise I'm only doing the easy lightweight ones, and I'm not drilling into the model. I'm not good enough for that.

What's the best type of glue to use for gluing metal to plastic? Not just brand, but chemical type.

I prefer epoxy. It dries fairly quickly, dries clear, fills gaps, doesn't hurt the paint, and can be peeled off if needed. I have used Loctite brand, Gorilla Glue brand, and a random brand I found at Harbor Freight.
