Odd question about equiptment

By Zogwort, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

It's been a while since I've played. I've been re-reading the rules and I am not finding anything that says which weapon types are compatible which which class or character. For example, I am not seeing anything in the rules that say a Knight can't use a Rune.

I know, its weird. Its gotta be in there somewhere, I must be blind. Can someone help me out?

Thanks!

There are no rules regarding weapon types and which characters can equip them. Any character can equip any weapon, as long as they follow the item slot restriction rules. However, runes are typically bad for the knight, as they take both hands and prevent the knight from using shields and his or her shield abilities. Also, most knight abilities like Advance of Oath of Honor require a melee weapon, so he'd forfeit those abilities to use a rune.

Ok, thanks. After reading and re-reading the rules, I was close to coming to the same conclusion. I just wasn't sure. I've only ever played as the overlord, so it makes sense that those soft restrictions are hiding in the hero class decks.

Thanks again! :)

As Whitewing said, any restrictions are usually built in the hero's skills.

Mage's skills usually say perform ana ttack witha rune weapon or a magic weapon. The Marshall needs two handed weapons. The Wildlander needs Bow weapons. The treasure hunter is a bit strange in that he has a power that allows the use of exotic or bow weapons.

It's important to check the skills you want to purchase, before settling on a weapon.

The only weapons that are class restricted are the actual class equipment (ie: "starting gear.") IIRC, the rules say these weapons cannot be traded to other characters and therefore they are locked to the class that starts with them.

Other gear from the shop or treasure decks are free-for-all, but as other responders have said, class abilities generally encourage certain configurations for that class.
