YT-2400 list (new player, tips needed)

By arolig, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So a friend of mine has got most ships(both factions) up til wave 4, so I have borrowed ships from him when playing. But I really want to buy some ships of my own. I know he lack's Y-wings, and I think his collection also lack Z-95's(but not sure).
I am atleast gonna get me a couple Z-95's, as they are cheap filler, and can be effective.
And as I love Dash Rendar, and I actually find the Y-wing to be decent ship I would love to bring those to the table as well.

So for a 100 pts build I am thinking:
Y-wing: Gold Squadron + Ion turret (23)
Z-95: Tala Squad (13)
Z-95: Bandit Squad (12)
Dash Rendar in YT-2400 (52pts) - Proton Rockers, Heavy Laser Cannon, Outrider, Munitions Failsafe

As for Dash I figure this is not the optimal build, I would imagine the engine upgrade is good?
And I am also thinking about swapping the failsafe for Nien Nunb . But these two cards(and whatever other ones are good) would need to be borrowed from my friend If I buy just these four ships.

Some open questions:
So. What do you guy's think about this build?
Is the YT-2400 worth it, does it need moar?
Is Y-wing at all any way to go? It could do wonders cleaning up dodgy TIE's after the YT2400 hits hard and lowers any shields they might have, could it not?
Are the Ion Pulse Missiles worth considering for the Z-95, for helping the Y-wing clean up weak ships?

Any other ships I should consider? (I wanna build around Dash...)

Engine upgrade and push the limits would be very good on the yt-2400 right now its really hard to find a lot of the ships though so just get the ships you can find and like and build around that with the cards they come with. Focus on fun right now and worry about competitve later. If there are some cards you want but don't want to buy the whole ship keep and eye on www.teamcovenant.com also they have awsome range templates. GL

after reading trough the forum a bit. I think this build could work as a starting point.

"Sideslip Dash" 53pts (Lone Wolf, Rec Spec, HLC, Outrider)
HWK-290 Rebel Operative (Ion Turret) ,21 pts

Total= 74

This build is good for starters right?
And I would get the cards I need in both packs :)

It's easy to fill the rest with a couple Tala ships(as they probobly always will be relevant as new ships get released.

I think that would be a good start for you. The only thing i can't stress enough is being aware of your lone wolf ability. It seems great at first running it but when i first started playing x-wing i kept forgetting to keep my distance from my other ships in order to get the effect from lone wolf.

seeing as stay on target card comes with the YT-2400, Dash moves late, and beeing at range is key with the ship, it is a great swap for Lone Wolf. :)

Thanks for the pointers :)

thinking

"Sideslip Dash" 53pts ( Stay on Target , Rec Spec, HLC, Outrider)
HWK-290 Roark Garnet (Ion Cannon Turret) ,24 pts
Y-wing, Gold Squad, (Ion Cannon turret), 23

On a budget. I would recommend running the cards that come with him.

It's what I did and had success with it, I now have no interest in ptl dash yet.

Dash

Lone wolf

Heavy laser cannon

Outrider

Leebo

You could add experimental interface to trigger leebo in an emergency also. Although you will be stressed next turn due to the white 1 manouvere.

This build isn't action optimised like ptl dash but has better mobility as you arnt locked into greens.

Judicious use of the barrel too to stay out of arc or at range three is key. Keep your distance and use the roids!

His pilot ability is awesome. Use it!

Do not write off the leebo card either. You may find boosting better then barrel rolling to get out of arc/r1.

It also allows you to trigger ion on dash on your terms against control lists. If they are out of position and put a token on you earlier just trigger a boost at a safe distance then clear the tokens then get back into the fight. I found I only used boost 2-3 times a game.

Do not forcefully keep your supporting ships out of range for lone wolf. While it is a cool ability, sometimes it is more advantageous to negate it. Example corran horn getting into range 1 of an enemy ship but in r2 of dash.

Beware higher pilot skill pilots who can get into your range 1 bubble after gouged moved. Keeping near rocks can help with this but isn't guaranteed.

Don't be afraid to experiments.

If you fly a HWK, Roark Garnett has a great ability to exploit, especially with Tala or Bandits, imo. The following is theory, so take it with a grain of salt :P

"Leebo" + determination + HLC + Outrider

Roark Garnett

Airen Cracked + swarm tactics

Bandit

The theory: You will have one PS 12 pilot and 2 PS 8 pilots in a 100 pt build backed by a 2400 that's only PS 5, but potentially hard to destroy. That puts your buddy in a tough position where to concentrate his squad.

Thx, that build seems nice (and cheap enough) to start of and get a feel for the game. Did not realize it takes 2 Ion tokens to ionize the big ships until now.

Man I at least like that theory(forgetting the salt). No matter if I get a HWK or the Z-95's I would not have spotted that "Leebo" build very fast. As I am not into all the cards just yet. That one is cheesy.

I have just Ordered myself the YT-2400 and Y-wing. (Thinking of expanding with the Most Wanted expansion pack, and the core set, when time comes)

As I will mostly be playing with my friend, I can borrow lot's of ships and cards from him, When I get my hands on a couple Z-95's I will try out your above build, I guess :)

He has most of wave the 2-3 ships, two core sets and a couple TIE defenders and a couple TIE Phantoms. So once I get Dash I will actually be able to try out the nastiest builds at once with him.

Dash/Horn (Ewing) builds are picking up at my lgs and are pretty effective. I haven't played it myself yet but may be worth some research and playtesting.

I've looked a bit at them. Looks good, but watching some battle reports the Imperial Decimator-lists wins against it.

So Is Corran Horn really that good?

Dash combined with,1-2 of the 6th wave Y-wing's with Ion, and/or Biggs are things I feel like trying out(As I am a rookie). And getting the Most Wanted expansion would be a great addition to my collection.

But picking up Corran Horn sure seems like a viable thing to do.

Landed on:

Rebels 99
A-wing, prototype pilot, chardaan refit, (15)
X-wing,biggs, R2-D2, (29)

Dash, lone wolf, leebo, proton rockets, HLC, outrider (55)

Got to try out dash the other day, love this game :)
Edit: Not landed on "lone wolf", because of Biggs, predator is better, but don't have the card, perhaps lone wolf for the A-wing or just higher pilot skill for it.

Veteran instincts is good if your thinking competitively.

In case whisper/echo appear at a tourney.

When autothrusters drop I think a-wings could be great support.

Probly would drop r2 from Biggs though and buff the a wing.

Biggs will get focused down rather quickly & doesn't have much evade dice or a good dial to keep up with dash.

Let us know how you go.
