Seems like no one likes using the yt 2400???

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

The super-Dash build is fun, especially paired with Jan:

Dash (PTL, HLC, Outrider, Kyle, Engine Upgrade)

Jan (VI, Ion Cannon Turret, Moldy Crow, Chewbacca, Engine Upgrade)

100 points

5 dice HLC turret...

I also like Leebo, but run him without the Outrider title (I think Dash is the only pilot who truly benefit from the title actually).

Leebo (Determination, HLC, Recon Spec [maybe Hull Upgrade or Engine Upgrade also])

Ok this is what I am going to try first in order to learn to use the 2400, and I hope that if I stick with the same list for a while I will learn the game a little better, (up till now I have just built my squads on the spot and never really learned to use any one pilot or card combo very well so I have not really got very good at the game, we will see if this changes that problem.

A list that runs the YT-2400 that has worked very well for me is the following:

Wild Space Fringer

Outrider title

Ion Cannon

Heavy Laser Cannon

It's best when flown in a tight block. The B-wings put down withering fire at any range (with the FCS to help punch through bigger targets). the YT-2400 plays a diversionary role in this build, ioning any high pilot skill or high maneuverability opponents, and can even try some action denial by getting enemy ships to bump into its large base. As a list, it's also very high in hull and shield and can consequently take a beating while dishing out one if its own.

38 points for max one damage and one ion token per game looks not good for me

I'm taking Dash to my local regional.

Dash w/ Mangler, Outrider, Kyle and PTL.

2 Red Squadron X-wings, one with stress-bot and 1 with an R2 unit.

I bet you are able to fire that cannon more than once per game

I ran that Outrider Ion Cannon a few times, it's fun as hell but competitively I don't think it holds up as it isn't as effective against 3 dice defense ships, especially with auto thrusters now.

I tried this the other week at my LGS:

Dash Rendar (57)
YT-2400 Freighter (36), Veteran Instincts (1), Autoblaster (5), Proton Rockets (3), Navigator (3), Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

Jan Ors (39)
HWK-290 (25), Veteran Instincts (1), Blaster Turret (4), Kyle Katarn (3), Moldy Crow (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

It's rather insane the mobility you can get on a YT-2400 with Navigator and then either a BR or boost. I did not have a problem keeping range one on my opponent, and the HWK becomes a capable ship in its own right once you sink 40 points into it. Taking an ICT instead of blaster is a thought.

Now that's thinking outside the box. Avoid R1? Hell no!! hahahahaha.

I'd try dropping the proton rockets for a ranged missile, like homing missiles, you have the points for leeway and I assume at range 1 the autoblaster will be better than the proton rockets

That is a thought. My current tweaking has gotten rid of it, and moldy crow and EU on the HWK for a bandit. Which works well with Jan.

I'd probably take homing missiles, makes it 100 exactly. Which I'm not a huge fan of because I'd like to have an initiative bid. Hmm. Ion pulse might also work.

My problems with the ship come from reading the novel. Short of the "bio alien menace from beyond the galaxy" Dash Rendar is my least favorite EU character. It just felt like the author was trying to be cooler than Han, way too hard. In one scene they invented diamond torpedoes so that Dash could hit them with his cannons but fail to destroy them so plot.

On the other hand the N64 game captured my imagination as few video experiences can.

So I own one, I'll get arround to using it sooner or later, but the best build for it seems to be Fat Dash and a friend and my Decimator can do that while giving me an excuse to play the imperial theme on my phone.

This is roughly why I don't own one.

It's a wannabe Falcon flown by a wannabe Han. Thematically I'm not interested in it. I don't find it's mechanics that interesting either.

imo, i.t.o game mechanics the YT-2400 is leagues more interesting than the solid lump of boring that is the YT-1300 because it can be kited out to be positioning dependent rather than just some turret

Even without Dash, the title-less, cannon bearing, int agent abusing Fringers can be very entertaining and very effective :)

I've now flown it once, it was ok. The arc dodging was absurd. It will probably be a while before I fly it again, I prefer Chewie in the Falcon.

I've had a lot of fun running two of them in this list:

2x Wild Space Fringer + HLC + Intel Agent

2x Bandit Squadron Pilot

It hits harder than the opponent expects, and the intel agent makes them mean blockers with the large barrel roll.

I used a Great(NotSuper)Dash to good effect in an escalation tournament.

If you are in a metagame in which PS bid is no longer dominant, Leebo is incredible.
Give him Determination, a defensive crew of some sort (I prefer Lando + Experimental Interface), and either Mangler+Title or HLC without.

You now have a fantastically speedy ship with good offense, and an astonishing defensive quirk.

That is to say, you have 2 agility, and whenever your opponent would deal you a face-up damage card, you have appx a 50% chance of discarding it entirely. Even if you don't manage to discard it, you still pick the lesser of two evils... so you're not losing your Cannon to a Munitions Failure unless you get the 1/1056 chance to draw both of them at once.

OP: It's hard to go wrong with Dash, Outrider, HLC and whatever you like after that.

I hate Dash and what he does to the game. An HLC mounted on a resilient large base as a turret would already be a bit much - allowing it to effectively ignore obstacles and teleport around the board is kind of stupid (yes, it pays for the privilege. It's still a stupid privilege to be given).

How do people, feel about Mangler + Outrider? I know HLC is great for saturating red dice, but I feel like closing the donut hole and turning hits to crits AND a three point discount is worth more than the extra red die, especially with Chiraneau + Soontir running around.

There are arguments for the Mangler, but Dash really wants that extra red every turn: the best way to keep people from biting the doughnut hole is to blow them up before they can get there.

You can also just take VI and bid for the initiative if you really want to protect against the R1 shot and use something like Experimental Interface + Lando as your action economy engine instead of PtL.

Dash has had a pretty solid set-up from the start with him, kyle (crew), push the limit, engine, heavy laser cannon, and outrider title

I bought one to try out turrets, and personally it just felt so unnatural (especially with the range 1 hole) that I never put it on the table again.

One day I'll fly him title-less and see if that feels better

I've been flying Dash with

Title

Autoblaster

PTL

Kyle

Engine

and it rocks

no donut, and you might think range one is a liability, but with PTL and Engine, I can get to range one pretty easily, Especially against SCUM which doesnt seem to have as many high PS.... (at least fielded that I have seen)

I flew a mirror match against a guy with a 2400 with HLC and it was weird with him trying to get to range 2 and me working to get inside it... was very cat and mouse

Yeah, I kinda figured. I just think 3 dice plus crits at all ranges is still pretty good. It frees up the rest of your list for other stuff as well.

With all the PtL ships coming back into the meta (ints in particular), I have had good fun with Eaden believe it or not. Especially if you can shoot on someone stressed @ R1. One shot a Dark Curse the other night in the starting rounds of our escalation campaign, because it tried to k-turn and was blocked by his own ship. Didn't expect it to go poof but it did. Can't wait to get Nera into the list in just a few nights...muahahahaha
