Help Needed to Assemble AT-ST

By Arrow, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I'm having a bit of trouble assembling the AT-ST model legs and main turret and was hoping to get some advice. Both legs are currently snapped into place but they don't sit flush on either side of the main piece. Is this normal? Secondly, I can't figure out a way to maneuver the main turret into position because of the flanges of the main piece. Am I suppose to force the flanges apart and hopefully not damage the model? Thanks in advance for the help.

I drilled out the mounting holes for the legs of my AT-ST so they didn't fit as tightly. That helped my push them all the way in place.

I also used a Dremel to cut down the protrusions inside the chin turret mount so they weren't so high. That made it easier to push the turret in place. I've also heard of people using hot water to soften the flanges so you can separate them easier to let the turret snap in place.

Step 1: place chin gun on table near the edge (making sure it is orientated correct)

Step 2: place canopy on op of gun

Step 3: press canopy down on canon until it pops on

Or magnetize the whole lot:

Make some tea.

Soak parts in leftover hot water for 30 seconds

Put parts together and bend them into position.

Douse in cold water for 10 seconds.

Enjoy a tasty warm beverage wnd your new AT-ST.

Total assembly time of 5 minutes or less minus the time taken to heat water

Thanks so much for the tips everyone! I bought a hand drill to deepen the mounting holes for the legs and will use some hot water to soften the plastic slightly before trying to position the turret again.

Thanks!!!

This actually works. I can't believe it was so easy to do this. I had spend days cussing, yelling, filing, prying, hurting my fingers, and more. After reading this, I dropped the gun on the table, put the head on top of it and pushed. SNAP! right into place. Perfect!

I was so astounded that I immediately did the same thing with General Weiss just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I didn't think to make a video until just now.

Thanks for this, it worked a treat for me too. I had nearly sheared the plugs off trying to get the cussed guns in!

The use table version actually didnt work for me, it was so warped/tight. The hot water trick fixed it in 10 seconds though.

I had to cut back the 'prongs' on the turret for the frontal guns, no way was it going on. It still sits very tight and rotates fine.

I shaved the tabs on the AT-ST, but used hot water for General Weiss.

For Jabba's Realm I kept the Rancor bottom in hot water for 5 minutes (it's a massive chunk of plastic), after which the keyholes in the legs fit the base. The back needed a bit of reforming too, after which the Rancor was put into the fridge to cool down.

Do you find hot water works better than a blast with a hot hair dryer?

Had mixed results with hair dryer, some good, some 'ok'. Never tried the water method.

I have never noticed those icons before, are they on expansion cards im guessing? Maybe I should double check which cards I have inserted into my campaign stuff!!!

Hot water is better for large things because you need to transfer a lot of energy. Steam and hairdryer needs a bit more care and precision work, and the temperature gradient is larger if you need to heat more mass.

I used hot water for both the AT-ST and Weiss and it worked great! Soak the "head" in steaming hot water (not boiling) for five minutes and the gun should fit in pretty easily.
