Scum and Villainy what to buy?

By Ryedub, in X-Wing

Allready own:

1 Slave-1 (planning on 1 more)

4 HKW-290's

8 Z95's

2 Y-Wings's (planning on 2 more)

Ordered:

4 most wanted

4 IG2000's

4 Starviper

6 Scyck's (maybe get a 7th later)

I don't understand why people want two Most Wanted boxed sets. Why? Just to have two of the Scum versions of the Z-95 and Y-wing?

Well if you plan on using them in a tournament you'll need the Scum dials. If you already have 2 Firesprays, HWKs, and Y-wings, which is the case with many players, then 2 MW sets gives you a total of 4 Zs, 4 Ys, 2 Firesprays, and 2 HWKs. Thats a lot of list options right from the start.

I like 4 Zs with Feedback Arrays and one of the Named Starviper pilots, and 2 Firesprays is gennerally a good with an Interceptor, so I'll probably be getting 2 MW sets

Those help. Plus, it opens up double HWK or Firespray lists, which should both be very strong for Scum.

I had thought that it would also open up options for more Feedback Arrays, but I was mistaken. The only illicit option in S&V is a single Hot Shot Blaster, which is actually a bit underwhelming.

2 Most Wanted, 2 Star Viper, 3 Scyk, 2 Aggressor.

I really want to fit in a 3rd Viper, but it'll depend on my cash when stuff hits.

I'll echo that 2 Most Wanted is a great great value for folks who already have multiples of the ships it contains. 27ish online for the parts to field 4 ships. 54 for 8 ships is the best dollar to mini cost in the game.

I think the Scyk will last longer than a Z-95 due to their higher agility and mobility. I wouldn't put them in the same class as the Z-95. I'd call them beefier Tie Fighters.

I'm curious why you think the upgrade is too expensive? With the Mangler Cannon, you don't have to go with a HLC. That keeps the price acceptable and worth the crit attack.

That's a list of small advantages, but it's a relatively long one. And 2 points isn't much to pay, so the value equation looks okay when you pose the question like that. But from another perspective, the Scyk is more than 10% more expensive than the Interceptor, and I don't think it's going to be 10% better.

I absolutely think it will have an occasional place in my Scum lists, I just don't think it'll be a mainstay or a common filler ship the way the Headhunter will.

The StarViper looks like a cheaper but less customizable version of the TIE defender and E-wing, and if that's the case I want two but likely only need one. There's an argument that you might want to buy extras for more Autothrusters, but I'm okay with just one blister to start.

Why do you say it's less customizable? If you go for the titled ship, you gain systems and illicit, which is more customizable in my opinion. That's just one ship, though. I do think it's a cheaper version than what the Defender and E-wing are suppose to be. The crazy Loop move is also cool.

I'm surprised at the number of people that prefer the Z-95 to a Scyk. I'd rather go with the latter. It's got one less shield, but a higher evade number. Also, it can do all that a Z-95 can do, but Barrel Roll and Evade. It's better at turtling up when it needs to or getting out of the way. Or even into the way. I guess my experience with Z-95's haven't been very good. I'd swap them for a Tie Fighter any day of the week.

2x Most Wanted

2x IG-2000

2x StarVipers

3x Scyks

I already own 2x Firesprays, 3x HWK (should have limited to 2) and 6 rebel Z-95. I'll be stuck with 10 of those total now!

I had thought that it would also open up options for more Feedback Arrays, but I was mistaken. The only illicit option in S&V is a single Hot Shot Blaster, which is actually a bit underwhelming.

I'll play you on vassal and show you the versatility of HSB

I'll probably pick up:

2 Most Wanted - although I'd prefer four, it'd just be maxing out at that point.

2 Star Vipers - You can field four, but who would?

4 Scyck - You could field up to seven naked, but after a title and cannon 4 is pushing it.

4 Aggressors - Because you can get four in a 150 point escalation game, and I am totally going to be that guy.

After all that you get 4x Autothrusters, 6x Inertial Dampeners, 6x Accuracy Correctors, 8x Deadman's Switches and Feedback Arrays, 4x BTL-A4, and 4x Bomb Loadouts. That is a metric s***ton of squad options. So yeah you could get more, but for my wallet's sake I'm going to try to stop there.

I think it's useful to compare a cheap generic Scyk + Mango Cannon to an Alpha Squadron Pilot. The Scyk changes a hull into a shield, can change a hit to a crit when it attacks, and trades boost for target lock. It gets PS2 instead of PS1, and a different dial (slightly slower with a bit less green, but clearly still very good).

But from another perspective, the Scyk is more than 10% more expensive than the Interceptor, and I don't think it's going to be 10% better.

The other thing to consider is the the Mango Flavored Scyk deals less damage at range one than an Alpha.

What I find interesting is that the Scyk costs 2 points more than the Interceptor and has the damage advantage at range three. If you add Autothrusters the two ships cost the same and it negates the range three advantage. The higher PS of the Scyk allows it arc dodge the Interceptor and kind of negates the range one advantage. I think flying 5 Mango Scyks against 5 Autothruster Alphas would make for a fun match.

Sounds like what you see on the Rebel side with Z-95s and A-Wings. I think 12 points hits a sweet spot when comparing 2 ships to one ship for 24. When you start looking at what you could take for 28 or 30 points you start to get a lot more attractive single ship options.

Even if you decide to take two ships instead of one now you are looking at either having 4 or 6 more points for upgrades to sprinkle across the rest of your list.

I can't do Vassal. I've tried.

I wouldn't think it compares to Z-95's vs. A-wings. I think it's more Z-95 vs. Tie Fighter. A-wings are not as good as Tie fighters in my book.

Also, you can take a Scyk without upgrades. It's not a crazy idea. I think I'd rather take one than a Z-95. Then again, time will tell.

2 most wanted

2 star vipers

4 m3-A interceptors

2 IG200. i would consider an extra 2 just so i could have A, B, C and D. but two is enough for now.
