Scum and Villainy what to buy?

By Ryedub, in X-Wing

So I've been poking around the spoils for the upcoming scum wave and I am wondering what ships I will need to purchase in order to create a few interesting lists. I know I am going to get at least one of each but are there any I should consider multiple of? If so how many.

The idea is to keep the buy list manageable but will still be able to create diverse lists rather than rehash the same one.

I think Most Wanted is going to be a two of.

DUR... all of it!

And probably at least one Starviper for accuracy corrector and the two autothrusters.

2 most wanted and at least 1 of each unique ship.

I plan on getting 1 of each and seeing what I like, then adding what I feel I need to fill out the fleet as I go. Most likely I'll end up with 2 of each, and maybe a couple more of the Scyks and Star Vipers. 4 IG-2000s are tempting for Epic but I don't play that often enough.

I like a lot of variety and running odd lists but I try to keep the purchase for each wave around $100-120 (MM prices). Usually that works out to 3 of each small ship and 1 of each large ship. There are a few exceptions but that is my general pattern.

With S&V I am doing it a bit differently though. I am getting 1 Most Wanted, 3 Scyks, 2 Star Vipers & 2 Aggressors. Worked out to be around $120 or so. I decided to switch out the third Star Viper for a second Aggressor because of the IG-2000 title. I don't think i'll need a second MW set. May also buy that third Star Viper but we'll see once I have everything in hand and played with.

Anyway, I think that will be a good Scum faction right out off the gate.

Two Aggressors, so you can actually use the title. Two Most Wanteds, so you can run double Firesprays. Then make sure you have two Firesprays.

Then, once you have all of that, you will have four Proximity Mines, so get four Bombers so you can run Sable's list from Worlds and kill all those Rebels and Scum.

Oh, and also get three more Advanced. You'll need them soon.

I'm probably going to need 3 boxes of Most Wanted so I can get the good scum paint scheme Y-Wings. And then sell all the Headhunters away

First what do you have in your collection already (assuming you already have the core set)?

If you already have a substantial collection for both Rebel and Imperial Squadrons then the Most wanted pack is the best place to start.

If you don't might I suggest a Y-wing, a HWK-290, and a Slave 1 pack before you pick up the MW pack. That way you do not end up with unused dials and can get the most out of that conversion pack.

If you don't have the ability to purchase those expansion packs you might want to stick with the original Rebel and Imperial factions until you are able improve your collections.

However If you must buy a S&V squadron and leave all other factions out in the dust then here are some suggestions.

  • Only 1 MW pack unless you really need 2 more scumZies. Still those are $20 a scumZies. Okay there is another Y-wing but if you need an additional Y-wing buy the Rebel Y-wing expansion pack it is cheaper (around $15 USD) and the MW pack has all the thing needed to add an additional Y-wing.
  • At least 2 MA-3 packs. They are supposed to be the agile "interceptor" type ship as the S&V counterpart to A-wings and Tie interceptors. They are low in point cost so taking multiples of them should not be a problem.
  • At least 2 Aggressors. They haven't been spoiled yet but one thing for sure the best way to get the most out of them is to use the title that combines abilities. You won't get to use all the upgrades if you only get 1. Fortunately you only need 2 to field the maximum number of Aggressors in 100 standard format. If you are on a tight budget then skip Aggressors all together.
  • At least 1 Star Viper. The double autothrusters is not that good of a thing for S&V squadrons considering the Star Viper and Aggressors are the only ship with a natural boost in the action bar. (MA-3 will need the engine upgrade). However if you have a single aggressor then at least get a star viper for each aggressor.
  • If you want a 2nd MW pack for the second scumhawk or firescum you will need to have a second HWK-290 and/or Slave 1 expansion pack. Sad but true. Still you should at least have one of those pre-wave 6 expansion pack before you get a second MW pack.

My plans of thus far are to get 1 Most Wanted pack and a StarViper. That should be a good start for S&V till tax refund time then im going to go nuts and fill out all the ships I need.

This may be subject to change once FFG spoils the rest of the IG-2000.....so my choice could end up being Most Wanted and a IG-2000 to start off with.....im a fan of bounty hunters after all

I have preorders for

2 most wanted

2 IG-2000

4 vipers

4 Scyk

I have a feeling that epic is going to become much more of a thing with the raider, so I'll probably add 2 more IG-2000 and another scyk once I see how they play.

It's savage on the wallet jump starting a new faction...

Disregarding everything said above, I've preordered a Most Wanted set, already picked up a Y-Wing and HWK-290 (since I didn't have them before), and am planning to acquire an Aggressor and a Firespray (when they're restocked). I'll wait on the Scyk and Virago, although I suspect my gaming buddy will jump on the StarViper (or ask for it for his birthday- I got him a TIE Bomber last year).

I want...

2 Starvipers (read: 2 Accuracy Correctors)

2 Most Wanted (Purely so i get 2 HWK Dials)

1 Scyk (For the Cannons)

...at least to start off with. Im trying to shy off the big ships for a while though the new Firesprays do look fun.

TWO OF EVERYTHING! Except the Aggressor...maybe...I might get three of them...eventually...but two for sure!

I'm probably going to need 3 boxes of Most Wanted so I can get the good scum paint scheme Y-Wings. And then sell all the Headhunters away

Headhunter-hater...

Define "Go Nuts!"

:D

My initial plan is one of everything then whatever i need for a second accuracy corrector.

And i'll need to trade for a second rebel ywing dial.

They way I looked at it, I already have 2 Z-95's, a Y-wing, HWK-290, plus the Firespray. So, if I get the Most Wanted box, I'll be able to use all that, plus another Y-wing and Z-95. Yeah, I'll need the official alt mini for tournaments, but I don't plan on taking Scum to tournaments anytime soon. I just think that one $25 box can get me all those ships for a faction...and that's a good thing.

The article for the Scyk came out and I severly want those new cannons. So.....two of those got added to the cart. I'll have a lot of uses for those cannons on all faction lists.

I needed to get one more item to boost my cart up to $100 (with the Wave 5 ships thrown in) and went with the Starviper for Accuracy Corrector and Auto Thrusters. I'll want the AC for my Tie Advanced and might want to use a Tie Interceptor again one day.

My only problem is now I can't get my YT-2400 and Decimator until the S&V comes out! Curses, foiled again!

Lets go minimal. Most wanted + Rebel HWK or Y-wing gives you decent selection of options - 3 ship, 4 ship, even 5 ship builds, (if you have both Y-wing and HWK). After that you can see your direction, ,maybe add M3 or starviper. If You want big ship consider Slave over robot madness, it gives more options (like going Empire side)

NOOOOOOO! I just did something weird with keyboard shortcuts and lost a longer post with reasoning for each. But my buy list works like this:

  • 1-2 Scyk fighters
  • 1 StarViper
  • 1-2 IG-2000
  • 2 Most Wanted

The Scyk is a hybrid between TIE-fighter-style filler and TIE-interceptor-style striker, but it's too expensive (with the title) to do the latter terribly well, and I already have Z-95s to do the former. On the other hand the named pilots and PS5+EPT are nice, and I can definitely see running one cheap generic with HLC as a low-investment, high-damage flanker.

The StarViper looks like a cheaper but less customizable version of the TIE defender and E-wing, and if that's the case I want two but likely only need one. There's an argument that you might want to buy extras for more Autothrusters, but I'm okay with just one blister to start.

The IG-2000 looks like it'll be a super-beefy TIE interceptor, but the Large base with a traditional single arc puts some clouds on the horizon for me. I'd be perfectly comfortable buying one except for the incredible synergy available through the IG-2000 title, but my X-wing budget is already going to be pinched for this wave, so (again) I'll start with just one and buy a second one later if I feel the need to.

Most Wanted offers new HWKs and new Firesprays, and since those are two of my favorite ships, I want to be able to build (and compete with) lists containing doubles of each. It's expensive, and I'll have a lot of extra Zs I likely won't use, but this is where I'm splurging.

I will be getting:

2x Most Wanted

3-4x Star Vipers

4-5x Scyks

2x Aggresors

1x Hwk

1x Firespray (already have 1)

The Scyk is a hybrid between TIE-fighter-style filler and TIE-interceptor-style striker, but it's too expensive (with the title) to do the latter terribly well, and I already have Z-95s to do the former. On the other hand the named pilots and PS5+EPT are nice, and I can definitely see running one cheap generic with HLC as a low-investment, high-damage flanker.

I think the Scyk will last longer than a Z-95 due to their higher agility and mobility. I wouldn't put them in the same class as the Z-95. I'd call them beefier Tie Fighters.

I'm curious why you think the upgrade is too expensive? With the Mangler Cannon, you don't have to go with a HLC. That keeps the price acceptable and worth the crit attack.

The StarViper looks like a cheaper but less customizable version of the TIE defender and E-wing, and if that's the case I want two but likely only need one. There's an argument that you might want to buy extras for more Autothrusters, but I'm okay with just one blister to start.

Why do you say it's less customizable? If you go for the titled ship, you gain systems and illicit, which is more customizable in my opinion. That's just one ship, though. I do think it's a cheaper version than what the Defender and E-wing are suppose to be. The crazy Loop move is also cool.

I hate typing up a whole post and fat fingering it.

For my part, my plans are:

Most Wanted, Scyk, StarViper to start.

Depending on budget, pick up either Aggressor or 2nd Syck (if rumored PS5 EPT pilot are true, then will definitely want one to Bodyguard for Sirissu).

Fill in gaps from there. I only have one HWK, Y-Wing and Firespray at the moment, so I'd probably want more of those before I look too closely at a second Most Wanted. I figure I'll also want to actually try the flavor of the faction before going all-in on it, to see if their dirty tricks are more fun than the screaming aces and lumbering tanks of the Empire.

I don't understand why people want two Most Wanted boxed sets. Why? Just to have two of the Scum versions of the Z-95 and Y-wing?
