Dear FFG: Stop Listening To Our Whining About Fixes

By TheJrade, in X-Wing

Dear FFG,

I know it is a bit late to ask for this for Christmas, but as the Raider will not be on shelves until next Christmas I figure it works out. We are humans, and many of us are 13 years old. We do yet understand how things that are different cannot be perfectly equal. We fussed about the A-Wing (and didn't buy it) until you released a fix for it. It was perfect, a small reduction in price for the loss of a rarely-used ability. And I say perfect because many of us got our mommies to buy A-Wings while a few others continued whining about how it still wasn't good enough. This is just right.

If you realize a ship you have made is a little overpriced, don't turn it into a Flying Monstrous Creature from that Other Game That Shall Not Be Named From The Grim Dark Future. Buff it a little bit, don't radically shift the meta so that suddenly we have hordes of this formerly not-so-good ship on every table.

Thanks for making this great game, but please stop listening to us so hard, there is a reason why I and all my friends don't play 40k anymore and it is because of the constant money-grubbing meta shifts. Don't go down that road.

P.S. Please make Advanced Targeting Computer spend the Target Lock when it activates.

I love how you post pleading for FFG to stop listening to us "13 year olds" whining about fixes, involves whining about fixes.......just saying.

I GUARANTEE you that FFG bases no design decisions based upon whining in the forums.

My advice is to report and move on. He wins if you engage.

I assure you as a forum poster I am not 13. Nor are all those who complain about OP Fat Hans and under-powered Tie Advances are 13 (even though their conduct on the forums might suggest a lower maturity level).

Still you need not worry just as R2ShihTzu has mentioned they rarely(and by rarerly I mean in the rarest of extremes) take advice from those that post in these forums.

For the most part everything here is well "unsolicited" and even though there is a "catch all" in the Terms of Services that grants FFG developers access they would rather avoid anything here. They have much better ways of coming up with new content and expansions.

Also there is not a single card that is put out without extensive play testing. There is a substantial selection process for play testers. I know of a friend who did play testing for FFG and already knows about Wave 6, he doesn't spoil anything because of non-disclosure agreements but he can tell you that he knew about the upcoming wave for about a year now. That is just to give you an idea of how long the development process is before something comes out on the shelves.

As for play testers they don't just pick people from the forums. FFG uses the tournaments for data collection and looks for the top players in which they invite/ask them to play test their new stuff (because if anyone finds an exploit that breaks the game they will find it). They also search for those with game designing backgrounds (my friend just had a board game published). How many people on these forums have designed and published their own board game? The answer is probably low so there is not much attention here.

Not to say that these forums do not provide valuable feed back, they do and many people from both the development and marketing side are listening. It is just they have the experience on how to interpret that feedback and what is the appropriate action. If the appropriate action is to ignore someone on the forums but take note on what is powerful, they do exactly that.

Well that's my $0.02. I don't think this is a spam topic or a troll topic there are some legitimate concerns and ones that can reasonably be addressed. A little teary eyed, yes, but how many Fat Falcon and Phantom posts have we had last year. This is suitable for the forums IMHO but then again I'm not a moderator or an administrator so... $0.02

This is gonna be one wild thread...

many of us are 13 years old.

Actually I have seen numerous polls about age of players online and every one of them had a very small percentage 15 and under - there are not that many 13 year old players. Most players are between 25-35 iirc.

Irony.. starting a thread about not giving into the whiners.. then beg for a new fix..

Sounds like you're spoiling for a flame war.. I hope the mods shut this down...

40 here.

I'm not too old... am I?

Now get off my lawn!! :P

I'm not going to agree with everything in the OP, but I agree that a lot of the ships that "need" fixes don't really need fixes. (The X-Wing, specifically . . . it's definitely not a bad ship, it's just that the generics aren't very good in this meta).

Anyway, my two cents.

People are scared of the TIE Advanced now?

This is making my insides Christmas-y all over again.

In all seriousness, bacon really is delicious. I've had bacon-wrapped hotdogs and bacon-wrapped steaks, but then you get into the real things like bacon-topped chocolate chip cookies with sweet butter or bacon-topped sushi roll with eel and tempura. It's amazing.

Sauerkraut and sausage anybody? No?

Gotta say, I love the way you rant about how FFG should completely ignore any suggestion on the forums that a ship may need help and leave any weaker ship completely alone (as opposed to investigating such themselves and then applying their professional design skills and judgement to the situation if they believe it necessary) because any update or balance must be a "money grubbing"...

...and then tell FFG that their TIE advanced fix is broken and needs a fix.

You don't get to complain about forumers playing "backseat designer" when you're doing that yourself. Have you even tried out the TIE advanced fixes or have you just jumped on the wagon of tears to call it broken with absolutely zero indication of how it actually plays?

Let's be honest here - the TIE Advanced was broken, in a very sad way. Those who would deny them parity stand for everything the designers have shown themselves to be against.

And the Advanced fix is just that. Parity. The TIE advanced still has a TIE advanced maneuver dial, without very high PS ATC isn't going to be triggering on every shot and even on super high PS it's hard to get it on every shot. As for Vader? ATC puts him on par with Fel, which is where he should be.

Sauerkraut and sausage anybody? No?

Sauerkraut and mustard on a hot dog? Throw in a cold beer and a hockey game and I'm there!
