Enhanced scope

I don't understand this card?

You buy it for 2 points and it changes your pilot skill to 0, during the activation phase, meaning you always move first? Why would you want that? If you could use either your pilot skill or 0, I could see a benefit sometimes.

What's the idea behind this card?

It gives you a blocker that is only able to be blocked by another ship with Enhanced Scopes. Put it on a Lamda Shuttle with APL and drop that fat base right in the path of the TIE swarm headed your way. Sigma Phantoms are too low PS to benefit from ACD but they are have a high enough PS that lots of ships can move before them. With Enhanced Scopes they don't have to worry about having their decloak blocked. Give them an Intellegence Agent and they have some ability to preemptively arc dodge or to block.

The benefits to Enhanced Scopes are that:

  • A ship with PS 0 becomes a very efficient blocker. It gets to activate with full knowledge of how the board currently stands, and with good prediction or an Intelligence Agent, always get his man.
  • A ship with PS 0 cannot be blocked. It gets to have its actions unless you do something purposefully.
  • A ship with PS 0 is a lower pilot skill than its allies for the Activation phase. This occasionally matters, like with Squad Leader.
  • Every ship with PS 0 activates simultaneously. That lets you choose the order in which they move, instead of it being determined by actual pilot skill. This is huge for a crowded board, or for formation flying.

Also, it only costs 1, not 2.

i think he meant "Enhanced Scopes" instead of "Advanced Sensors". Advanced Sensors lets you take an action before you reveal your dial.

How did I....

Okay, this list is the Enhanced Scopes list. Adv Sensors is just innately good.

I think I need more games played before I fully appreciate the benefit, but thanks for the explanations guys :)

Sometimes some things seem to be illogical and make you wonder why you would bother taking it, but there is usually a method in the madness.
