New Tourney, new Defenders list!

By Rividius, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, new tourney, new list, and because I like Defenders, I'm taking them.

Last tourney I ran Rex + Howl mini-swarm and it did alright. I played badly a few games and the list needed some tweaks, ended up going 2/2.

This time, I'm going to use the generics. This is an evolution of a list I played a while back when Defenders first came out.

Delta (33)

- Ion Cannon

Delta (33)

- Ion Cannon

Mauler Methil (18)

- Veteran Instincts

Winged Gundark (16)

So the Delta's are control ships, sort of. They can Ion, they can block, they are expensive for what they do, but are also reasonably tough.

Mauler and Gundark are, hilariously, my main damage dealers. Ideally they swoop into range one of an Ion'd ship and and blast away, Mauler with his extra dice and Gundark getting 'auto' crits.

The choice I'm trying to force on my opponent is, who do you go for first? Fragile TIE's, right? The TIE's together are worth 1/3 of my points, and while I fully expect them to die, my hope/plan is that they do enough damage on their way down that the Delta's can mop up whatever is left. The Delta's are good all round ships.

VI on Mauler to help with Phantoms and 1 point for initiative.

So, is the logic sound? Are the Deltas more attractive as targets than I give them credit for? What would do you normally fly and with that, how would you approach this squad?.

Thanks guys.

I love it!

With the 2 ship builds getting around I think it could do very well.

Winged Gundark is only 15 points. I think Backstabber would be a better choice if you are looking for damage. I find his extra damage much easier to come by than Mauler's.

Yeah, I did consider Backstabber. The reason I took Gundark was just for the crit as I expect to be facing Decimators.

I'm planning on trying out both and see how they go.

I don't really have anything to add, I think the list looks interesting. I also like Backstabber in that list, just because sometimes the best way to fight big ships is strip their support as fast as possible, and Backstabber is better at that. Let us know how you do.
